A Prayer for Wise Stewardship and Divine Insight
"This is the King James Version of the Bible verse Luke 16:1-8: And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light." - Luke 16:1-8

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today, my heart filled with gratitude and reverence as I seek Your wisdom and guidance. As I meditate upon Your Word, particularly the parable found in Luke 16:1-8, I am reminded of the importance of stewardship—of using the resources and gifts You have entrusted to me in a manner that honors You and serves others. Lord, the steward wasted the goods of his master, and thus found himself in a predicament that drove him to seek a wise solution. May I always be aware of my responsibilities and the consequences of my actions, so that I may never abuse the blessings You have provided.
"And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods." (Luke 16:1, KJV)
Father, I acknowledge that everything I possess is a gift from You. Help me to be a faithful steward who does not take lightly the duties handed down by You. Let me not waste my time, talents, or resources, but rather utilize them for Your glory and the advancement of Your Kingdom. Teach me to be diligent and conscientious in all that I do. When the time comes for me to give an account, may I stand confidently, knowing I have handled my responsibilities with integrity.
"And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.”
Lord, I recognize that we all must stand before You and give an account. This reality fills my heart with a profound sense of accountability. Help me, O God, to live each day with this truth ever before me. Instill in me a desire to live righteously and to embrace the call You have placed upon my life. May I seek to grow and improve, just as the unjust steward sought a way to ensure his future after losing his position.
The steward, in his moment of adversity, wisely crafted a strategy that reflected both shrewdness and foresight. "What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed." (Luke 16:3, KJV)
Father, grant me the wisdom to make decisions that reflect Your truth, even in challenging circumstances. Help me to think creatively about how I can serve others and meet their needs while securing my place in Your favor. Lord, as I face trials and challenges, remind me to rely on Your guidance, turning to You in prayer for strength and insight. Teach me to act wisely, not out of desperation, but out of a heart aligned with Your purposes.
The steward then reached out to his lord's debtors; "So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him…" (Luke 16:5, KJV).
Lord, may I always remember that service to others is a reflection of my service to You. As I interact with those around me, may I be generous in my spirit, looking for ways to alleviate their burdens and extend grace. Let me be a vessel through which Your love flows freely. Just as the steward offered reductions, help me to be an instrument of relief, kindness, and support in a world full of need.
Finally, as You closed the parable with the wisdom of the lord, saying, "the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light" (Luke 16:8, KJV), I pray for discernment as I navigate through life.
Teach me, Lord, to learn from the world around me without compromising my values. Help me to be clever, insightful, and above all, faithful in my interactions and stewardship. May my life shine as a beacon of Your light, illuminating the path for others to see Your goodness and grace.
In Your precious name, I pray, Amen.

Luke 16:1-8 - "Luke 16:1-8 Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.' The manager said to himself, 'What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg-- I know what I'll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.' So he called in each one of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?' 'Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,' he replied. The manager told him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.' Then he asked the second, 'And how much do you owe?' 'A thousand bushels of wheat,' he replied. He told him, 'Take your bill and make it eight hundred.' The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light."
