Through Faith, Mountains Become Plains: A Prayer Inspired by Zechariah 4:7
"Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it." - Zechariah 4:7

O Sovereign Lord, Creator of Heaven and Earth, I come before You today in humble reverence, acknowledging Your sovereignty over every mountain that stands in my path. Lord, I am reminded of Your powerful words in Zechariah 4:7, "Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.” As I reflect on this profound truth, I recognize that all obstacles in my life are mere illusions in comparison to Your unfathomable power.
Father, I am grateful for the promise embodied in this verse. When faced with challenges that seem insurmountable, You invite me to inquire, "Who art thou, O great mountain?" Thank You for reminding me that no mountain is too great for Your might. Help me to carry this truth firmly in my heart, for it is easy to become overwhelmed by the weight of life’s struggles. Yet, I know that You are the Lord of hosts, leading me through valleys and over mountains. In my heart, I desire to be like Zerubbabel, who, by faith, engaged the mountains that stood before him.
Lord, there are many mountains I face—mountains of fear, doubt, and uncertainty; mountains of illness, loss, or broken relationships. Each challenge looms large, casting shadows on my spirit. Yet, I choose to stand on Your promises, proclaiming that these mountains shall become plains before You. I pray for the faith that moves the mountains, understanding that it is not by might, nor by power, but by Your Spirit.
Holy Spirit, empower me to confront each mountain with courage and confidence. When challenges arise, lead me not to despair but to trust in Your grace. Remind me of the grace that Zerubbabel experienced as he rebuilt the temple—a grace that enables me to rebuild my own life amidst trials. May my life reflect Your glory, and may I engage my mountains with a heart that shouts, "Grace, grace unto it!"
Father, I beseech You to give me the strength to persevere when I feel weary. When I feel that the journey is too arduous, remind me of Zerubbabel's determination. As he placed the headstone with joyful shoutings, may I too celebrate my breakthroughs. Teach me to find joy in the process of overcoming, not merely in the outcomes. Help me to rejoice in the small victories, celebrating each step taken in Your name.
Today, I lay before You those heavy burdens that feel like mountains: my financial worries, my health struggles, my relationships in turmoil. In the face of these mountains, I declare Your Lordship, knowing that every obstacle is subject to Your authority. Transform the severity of my trials into testimonies of Your grace, and let me be a witness to Your faithfulness.
As I lift my concerns before You, I ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit in my life. Equip me with a renewed perspective that sees beyond the mountains to the plains that You are preparing for me. Help me to visualize the reality of Your promises, and create a faith that shouts in triumph the grace You so freely give—the grace that redeems and restores.
In closing, I want to thank You for the assurance that Your grace is sufficient. The mountains I face herald my future victories through You. May my life become a living testimony that no mountain stands before me that cannot be flattened by the grace of God. Grant me the wisdom to share this message of hope with others who may feel trivialized by their own mountains.
I pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, who conquered every mountain and who is my source of strength. Amen.
