Great God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

We come before Thee with humble hearts, quieted in Thy presence, desiring to lift our eyes above the burdens of this present world and to set our affection on things above. Thou hast given us Thy holy Word as a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, and Thou hast placed within the Scriptures a promise that steadies the trembling soul and strengthens the weary pilgrim. We bow before Thee in reverence and adoration, and we confess that our hope is not found in ourselves, nor in the fading security of this life, but in Thy sure promise.

Lord, we cling to the truth of Titus 2:13, and we confess it before Thee with faith and longing: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” Put this holy expectation deep within us. Teach us what it means to be truly looking—watching with sober hearts, waiting with patient endurance, and living with steady confidence. Keep us from a distracted spirit. Deliver us from spiritual drowsiness and from the deceitfulness of sin that would dull our desire for Thy coming. Let the noise of this world grow strangely dim compared to the brightness of that “blessed hope.”

Father, we acknowledge that our eyes too often drift toward lesser hopes. We confess that we have sometimes sought comfort in earthly outcomes, reputation, possessions, or the approval of men. Forgive us for building our expectations on things that cannot last. Forgive us for the moments when fear has spoken louder than faith, when anxiety has ruled our thoughts, and when we have lived as though this present age were our final home. Turn our hearts again toward Thy promise. Let the anticipation of the “glorious appearing” of our Lord purify our motives, correct our priorities, and steady our emotions.

We worship Thee, Lord Jesus Christ, for Thou art called in Thy Word “the great God and our Saviour.” We adore Thee for Thy majesty and for Thy mercy. Thou art not merely a helper to the weak; Thou art the King of glory, holy and eternal, and yet Thou hast drawn near to save. We praise Thee for Thy suffering, for Thy cross, for Thy resurrection, and for Thy reign. And we praise Thee also for the certainty that Thou shalt appear in glory. Let our hearts be filled with awe as we remember that the One who promised is faithful, and that the day of Thy appearing is not a myth nor a wish, but a sure event decreed by heaven.

O Lord, shape our daily lives by this future certainty. Help us to live as those who are ready. Make our repentance sincere and continual. Make our prayers earnest. Make our worship reverent. Give us clean hands and a pure heart. Teach us to forgive quickly, to love deeply, and to walk humbly. Let our words be seasoned with grace, and let our private thoughts be brought under obedience to Thee. Where we are tempted, provide Thy way of escape. Where we are weak, be Thou our strength. Where we have been wounded, be Thou our healer. Where we have grown cold, kindle in us holy fire.

Give us compassion for the lost and boldness in witness, for we know that time is short and souls are precious. Let the hope of Thy appearing make us diligent rather than idle, faithful rather than fearful, generous rather than grasping. Teach us to serve with joy, even when service is costly. Teach us to endure with patience, even when obedience is misunderstood. Teach us to suffer with hope, remembering that our present troubles are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed.

And when discouragement rises, when we face sorrow, sickness, conflict, or lack, fix our eyes again upon Thy promise: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” Let this Word be a shield against despair and a song in the night. Remind us that history is moving toward Thee, that evil shall not rule forever, and that righteousness shall triumph. Strengthen Thy church to wait with lamps burning, to remain steadfast in doctrine, to abound in holiness, and to be found faithful at Thy coming.

We ask that Thou wouldst comfort those who mourn, uplift those who are crushed in spirit, and restore those who have wandered. Gather Thy people in unity and truth. Purge us of hypocrisy and fill us with Thy Spirit. Make our homes places of prayer, our churches houses of worship, and our lives living testimonies of Thy grace.

Lord Jesus, we love Thy appearing. Keep us looking. Keep us longing. Keep us ready. And when Thou dost come, may we not be ashamed before Thee, but rejoice with exceeding joy, giving all glory to Thee alone.
