A Prayer for Righteous Leadership
"For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;" - Titus 1:7

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a heart full of reverence and humility, acknowledging Your greatness and sovereignty over all creation. As we gather in Your presence, I bring to You the profound truth of Titus 1:7, where it is written: "For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre." Lord, these words resonate deeply as we seek to embody the qualities of an excellent steward in our lives, especially for those in leadership within the church and beyond.
Father, I ask that You help us to embrace the call to blamelessness. Grant us the wisdom and strength to live lives that are pleasing in Your sight, reflecting Your light to all those around us. May we strive for integrity and purity in our thoughts, actions, and motives. Let us not only aim for blamelessness in our roles as leaders but also in our everyday interactions with others. Help us to understand that leadership is not merely a title; it is a calling to serve others humbly and faithfully.
Lord, keep us from being self-willed. Teach us the way of submission to Your will and the needs of our communities. Let us recognize that true leadership is not about asserting our own desires but about lifting others up and empowering them. May we always seek to align our will with Yours, trusting that You have a good plan for us and for those we lead. Humble our hearts and break the chains of self-centeredness, so that we may serve selflessly, reflecting the servant leadership of Christ.
In moments of frustration or conflict, help us to remain slow to anger. Father, we recognize that leadership comes with challenges that can provoke impatience within us. Instill in us a spirit of peace and a heart that is quick to listen and slow to speak. When we encounter adversity, may we respond with grace and understanding, reflecting Your patience and compassion. Help leaders to cultivate an environment of love and acceptance, where healing and reconciliation take centre stage.
Lord, we also pray that we may not be given to wine or any form of indulgence that could compromise our witness. For those in leadership, moderate our consumption and inspire us to lead lives of moderation and discipline. Let us not be ensnared by the temptations of this world, which can cloud our judgment and hinder our ability to serve well. Instead, may we be filled with the Holy Spirit, overflowing with joy, peace, and self-control.
As we strive to be good stewards, let us not be strikers or contentious persons. Cultivate within us a spirit of gentleness and kindness. Teach us the power of reconciliation over conflict, of dialogue over discord. Help us to be advocates of peace, forging relationships built on respect and love. When faced with hostility, may we remember the words of Your Son, who taught us to turn the other cheek and to love our enemies.
Forgive us, Father, for anytime we have pursued wealth at the expense of our witness. May we not be driven by the pursuit of filthy lucre but by a desire to glorify You in all we do. Teach us that true riches come not from material possessions but from the eternal fields You have prepared for us. Let our motivations be rooted in love, as we seek to empower others and enrich their lives through our service.
Lord, I pray that You will raise up leaders who embody these virtues, who will be exemplars of Your love, integrity, and wisdom. As they lead Your church and communities, let them inspire others by their character and commitment to You. May we all strive to be good stewards of the gifts and responsibilities You have entrusted to us.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
