A Prayer of Awakening to God’s Goodness and Grace

"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" - Romans 2:4

"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" - Romans 2:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before Your throne of grace today, I am humbly reminded of the depths of Your love and the richness of Your goodness toward us. Your Word in Romans 2:4 declares, "Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" Oh Lord, how often we take for granted the abundant blessings of Your goodness and the incredible forbearance You have shown us.

Lord, I seek Your forgiveness for the moments I have overlooked Your grace, for allowing the busyness of life to drown out the gentle whispers of Your love and kindness. Help me, Father, to recognize and cherish the richness of Your goodness that surrounds me every day. Your goodness is evident in the beauty of creation—the sun that rises and sets, the laughter of children, and the comfort of a friend—yet how often do I turn a blind eye to these precious gifts?

Father, forgive me for my indifference and complacency. Teach my heart and soul to appreciate the forbearance You extend to me. I acknowledge that I am a sinner saved by grace, and it is only by Your patience that I am allowed to dwell in Your presence. Your longsuffering reflects the depth of Your love; it shows that You are not quick to anger and are ever willing to forgive. You desire a relationship with me, and I do not want to take that for granted any longer.

As I meditate on the promise that "the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance," I am filled with gratitude. It is through Your goodness that I am convicted of my wrongdoings, and it is through Your kindness that I am drawn back to You. Help me to understand fully that Your intention is not to condemn but to redirect, heal, and restore. Let my heart break for the things that break Yours, and awaken within me a sincere desire to turn away from sin and embrace a life that is pleasing to You.

Lord, I ask that You would cultivate within me a spirit that yearns for repentance. May I always be willing to seek alignment with Your heart and Your will. Let me not wear the mask of pride, thinking I am beyond the need for change or growth. Instead, grant me the humility to acknowledge my faults and the courage to seek Your face in all things.

In my repentance, let me understand that it is more than simply saying, “I am sorry.” True repentance requires a transformation of the heart—a genuine shift in my thoughts and actions that confirms my love for You. Let Your goodness be the spark that ignites this change in me. May my life radiate Your grace, inspiring others to seek the peace and joy that come from turning to You.

Father, I pray for those around me as well. Help us all to recognize the endless mercies that You extend. Open the eyes of our hearts to see that Your goodness is persistent and pervasive, reaching even the deepest parts of our souls. May we extend forgiveness to one another, reflect Your longsuffering, and embody Your grace in our daily lives.

As I continue this journey of faith, I am reminded of Your promise that mercy triumphs over judgment. Thank You for the hope that lies in Your goodness. I go forth today with a renewed spirit, embracing the richness of Your love and alert to the ways Your goodness is prompting my heart toward repentance. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray,

Amen.
