A Prayer for Righteousness and Leadership
"For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:" - Romans 13:3

Heavenly Father,
As we come before You today, we bow our heads in reverence and gratitude for Your wisdom and guidance in our lives. Lord, we recognize that Your Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). Today, we turn our hearts and minds to Romans 13:3, which tells us: ‘For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same.’
Lord, we thank You for the authority You have established on this earth. We know that governing rulers and leaders are Your appointed servants, meant to maintain order and justice in our society. We pray that those in power will recognize the gravity of their responsibilities and reflect Your intentions in their decision-making. May their hearts be moved by the desire to serve the public good, upholding righteousness and justice, rather than seeking personal gain or resorting to corruption.
As we reflect on the words of scripture, we ask for the courage to not be afraid of the authority placed over us, understanding that it is by Your divine ordination. Empower us, Lord, to do good works, cultivating a heart of kindness, mercy, and service to others. Instill in us the confidence that as we act with integrity and righteousness, we shall garner praise not only from human authorities but, more importantly, from You, our Heavenly Father. May our actions reflect Your love and grace in a world that often seems darkened by fear and evil.
We also pray for those leaders who may have lost their way, who may employ their positions to intimidate or harm rather than to protect and serve. Intercede for them, Lord. Touch their hearts and minds so that they may see the beauty of justice, the power of truth, and the importance of humility. Transform their motives and inclinations, allowing them to rule with wisdom and compassion. Help them understand that true power is steeped in servanthood, as modeled by Jesus Christ, who came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45).
Heavenly Father, we are aware of our responsibility as citizens, to engage with our minds and our hearts in the systems around us. Guide us in our actions, thoughts, and dialogues regarding those in authority. May we always speak truth to power, holding our leaders accountable with love and respect. Keep us from a spirit of fear when addressing injustice, and instill in us the boldness of faith, knowing that by doing good, we align ourselves with Your will.
As we pray for righteousness in our leaders, let our desire to do good works begin within ourselves. Inspire us to love our neighbors, serve those in need, and seek peace within our communities. Help us to foster relationships characterized by trust and respect, cultivating an environment where goodness flourishes amidst any adversity.
Finally, Lord, we recognize that Your ultimate authority surpasses all earthly powers. Help us to remember that our true allegiance is to You. As we navigate the complexities of life, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to living righteously, understanding that doing good has eternal significance far beyond mere earthly praise. It is in our steadfast commitment to righteousness where we truly discover our purpose and impact in the world.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Trusting His everlasting guidance and grace,
Amen.
