A Prayer for Understanding the Great and Marvellous Works of God

"Revelation 15:1-8: 1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. 2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. 4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. 5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: 6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. 7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. 8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled." - Revelation 15:1-8

O Sovereign Lord,

In the stillness of this moment, I come before You, overwhelmed by the profound depths of Your Word, as revealed in Revelation 15:1-8. I stand in awe, recognizing the magnitude of Your great and marvellous works. You are the Almighty, the One who holds the universe in the palm of Your hand, the Creator of all things seen and unseen.

Lord, the scripture tells us of a great and marvellous sign, revealing Your holy plan through the seven angels with the seven last plagues. These plagues reflect Your righteous judgment, bringing to completion the fullness of Your wrath against sin. As I contemplate these truths, I am reminded of the gravity of Your justice and the importance of living in a way that honors You. Help me to recognize the seriousness of my actions and the consequences they may bear, not just for myself, but for my family, my community, and my world. Let me not take lightly the call to righteousness, knowing that Your wrath is directed against the unrepentant and the wicked.

Heavenly Father, just as John sees the sea of glass mingled with fire, I ask that You help me to see the significance of this imagery. This sea represents the peace and purity that comes from overcoming trials through faith in You. I desire to stand with those who have had victory over the beast, who have resisted temptation and have stood firm in their faith in You. May my heart be steadfast, my spirit unwavering, as I strive to align my life with Your will, and may I feel the echo of their victory resounding in my own life.

As these victorious saints sing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb, I long to join in that chorus. Father, put a new song in my heart, a melody of praise for Your great and marvelous deeds. I declare that Your works are indeed great and marvelous, and I will glorify Your name. Your ways are perfect, O King of saints; help me to trust in Your sovereignty even when circumstances seem dire. Teach me to live with a heart of worship, to honor You in every aspect of my life, and to always proclaim Your glory among the nations.

Lord, I am reminded of the call you have in verse four, “Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name?” You alone are holy, and I desire to have a reverence for You that permeates every area of my life. Stir in me a holy fear—one that compels me to turn away from sin and draw closer to You. I pray for the nations, Lord, that every person may come to know the truth of who You are and that all hearts will worship before You.

In the vision of the temple of the tabernacle, You show us a glimpse of Your glorious presence. I recognize that no one may enter where Your glory dwells until Your plans are fulfilled. Lord, may I approach Your throne with a heart prepared and a spirit cleansed. Help me to live in such a way that I am continually ready to enter into Your presence, where Your power resides in fullness.

As the seven angels emerge from the temple, clothed in purity and glory, may I too be clothed in righteousness, reflecting Your love and grace in a world that desperately needs You. Let me be a vessel of Your message, sharing the truth of Your word and proclaiming Your gospel boldly.

Finally, I pray that as I seek to understand the weight of this scripture, my heart may be impacted in such a way that I am filled with reverence, humility, and a desire to be more like Christ. May Your Word penetrate my heart deeply, allowing me to live a life that mirrors the holiness of God and the grace of the Lamb. I thank You for Your mercy and Your grace, O Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Revelation 15:1-8 - "Revelation 15:1-8

Then I saw in heaven another sign, great and awe-inspiring: seven angels with the seven last plagues, for through them God’s fury is accomplished. Then I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire. On the sea of glass were standing those who had won the victory over the beast and its image and the number that signified its name. They were holding God’s harps, and they sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:

“Great and wonderful are your works,
    Lord God almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
    O king of the nations.
Who will not fear you, Lord,
    or glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All the nations will come
    and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

After this I had another vision. The temple that is the heavenly tent of testimony opened, and the seven angels with the seven plagues came out of the temple. They were dressed in clean white linen, with a gold sash around their chests. One of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven gold bowls filled with the fury of God, who lives forever and ever. Then the temple became so filled with the smoke from God’s glory and might that no one could enter it until the seven plagues of the seven angels had been accomplished."
