Heavenly Father,

Lord, we read the words, "And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth." We pause to consider the significance of Your prophets—their voices, their messages, and the truth they proclaimed. We recognize that Your prophets often deliver messages that are met with great contention and opposition. They are the bearers of Your truth, yet they are also the targets of scorn and derision from a world resistant to change.

Father, we come to You today acknowledging that we, too, can sometimes find ourselves reveling in ignorance, turning our backs on the words of wisdom calling out from the messengers You have sent. We confess the tendency within our hearts to find comfort in a familiar narrative and to celebrate the demise of those who challenge the status quo.

As we approach the image of those rejoicing in the fall of Your chosen prophets, we ask for deep insight. Grant us the grace to comprehend the sorrow embedded in this celebration. Help us to see that their joy stems not from freedom but from the bondage of their own confusion and rebellion.

Lord, as the earth dwells in merriment, we pray for a sober reflection on our own hearts. Are we among those who cheer for easy truths and convenient lies? Do we construct altars of celebration on the grave of authenticity? We ask You to illuminate our paths and help us discern the difference between the fleeting joy of human understanding and the everlasting truth of Your divine word.

Let us not be like those who trade their connection to You for temporary pleasures and gifts exchanged in the spirit of distraction. Instead, instill in us a desire to seek the deeper meaning of Your prophets' messages, to listen intently to their calls for repentance, justice, and holiness. May we not find joy in the suffering of truth, but rather in the embrace of Your grace that calls us to a more profound relationship with You.

We yearn to be a people who uplift and encourage rather than condemn and dismiss. Teach us to rejoice not in the downfall of truth, but in the resilience of those who stand firm against adversity. Help us to celebrate the prophets who challenge us to be better and to live righteously, even when their messages are hard to hear.
