O Lord God Almighty, our Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne of grace with hearts burdened by the weight of our transgressions. We approach You with reverence and humility, recognizing the magnitude of Your holiness and the depth of Your mercy. In this sacred moment, we reflect on Your Word, specifically the poignant cry of the Psalmist in Psalm 85:5, "Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?" These words resonate deeply within our souls as we seek to understand the nature of Your righteousness and the consequences of our waywardness.

Lord, we acknowledge that throughout human history, and indeed in our own lives, we have often strayed from Your paths of righteousness. We have wandered like lost sheep, pursuing our selfish desires rather than Your divine will. We have been quick to sin and slow to repent, choosing to indulge in the fleeting pleasures of this world over the eternal blessings of Your kingdom. In doing so, we have provoked Your holy anger and deservedly earned the separation that sin creates between us.

Yet, in this time of reflection, we beseech You to hear our petitions. You are a God of grace, a compassionate Father who desires not the death of the sinner but rather repentance and restoration. As we contemplate the weight of Your anger, we are also filled with hope because we know that Your love is greater than our transgressions. We plead, therefore, for Your mercy to abound over judgment. Please do not hold Your anger against us for all eternity, as we are but dust, fragile and weakened by our sinful nature.

Father, we implore You to look upon us with compassion. As the Psalmist questions whether You will draw out Your anger to all generations, we earnestly pray that You would break the chains of sin that bind us and that hinder us from walking in Your light. Turn Your gaze away from our iniquities, and allow Your grace to shine upon us, dispelling the darkness that threatens to engulf us. Just as You were faithful in times past, we trust in Your promise to redeem and restore us in the present.

We also recognize that the anger You have towards sin is not an arbitrary response but a reflection of Your holy nature. It is a righteous anger that desires to reconcile the broken relationship between us and You. So, we repent of our sins, O Lord. We confess our failures and shortcomings, not just in our actions but also in our thoughts and intentions. We cry out for purification and transformation; cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and renew within us a spirit that seeks after You fervently.

Lord, may our hearts echo the sentiments of the Psalmist not only for ourselves but for our families, our communities, and our nations. We beseech You to turn the hearts of the generations to come towards You. Forgive us for the legacy of sin that may have been passed down, for the times we have failed to pass on the truth of Your Word and the call to holiness. Teach us to walk in Your ways, to model Your love, and to foster a generational legacy that honors You.

As we approach the throne of grace, we do so with confidence, trusting that You are faithful to forgive and to heal our land. May we see revival stir within us as we turn from our evil ways. Thank You, Lord, for the assurance that our hearts are never too far gone to seek Your mercy, and that You, in Your infinite love, always long to draw us back to Yourself.
