A Prayer for Discernment Against Deceit
"They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?" - Psalms 64:5

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I humbly bow my heart and mind in reverence for Your holy presence. I acknowledge Your sovereignty over all creation and recognize that You are a God of justice, truth, and righteousness. In this moment, I seek to reflect on the powerful words of Psalm 64:5, which remind us of the cunning and deceit that can flourish in the hearts of men. “They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?”
Lord, I understand that there are those who plot and scheme in darkness, who whisper plans of wickedness and snares in secret corners. It pains my heart to consider the depths to which humanity can sink, to conspire with intent to harm others for selfish gain. Such actions grieve Your Spirit and are abhorrent in Your sight. I pray that You will give me the wisdom to recognize such evil when it arises, both in myself and in the world around me.
I ask for discernment, Lord, that I may not be led astray by the seemingly benign words of those who cloak their true intentions under the guise of friendship or camaraderie. Help me to see beyond the surface, to discern the motives of the heart. Let me not be naive or easily swayed by those who engage in empty conversations, thinking to take advantage of circumstances or to set traps for others.
Father, I pray for those who plot evil. Your Word declares that they encourage themselves in their wickedness. I ask that You would convict their hearts and reveal the darkness within them. Let them see the error of their ways, and through Your divine intervention, lead them to repentance. You are a God of redemption, and I hold fast to the hope that even the hardest of hearts can turn back to You.
Lord, let us never be counted among those who engage in such disquieting schemes. Build a hedge of protection around us, guarding our hearts and minds against the alluring temptations of wrongdoing. Surround us with fellow believers who desire to walk in Your truth and encourage us toward righteousness. Fill us with your Spirit of integrity, so that we may shine brightly in a world filled with shadows.
As I reflect on the last part of the verse, “they say, Who shall see them?”, I recognize the arrogance that comes from believing one can act without accountability. Lord, I pray that we all may be reminded that You see all things. Nothing is hidden from Your gaze, and every action, intention, and thought is laid bare before You. May this truth instill a sense of moral responsibility in our hearts, that we might act in accordance with Your will and purposes, knowing that every deed will be revealed.
Help me, Father, to stand firm against any plots that may arise against me or those I love. Equip me with the armor of God that I may withstand the fiery darts of the wicked one. Teach me how to pray and intercede for those who are facing similar challenges, so that I may be a source of comfort and strength to others in need.
Guide my steps daily, Lord. May my life reflect Your glory and truth, and may I become an agent of change in places where evil seeks to take root. Let my words encourage others to seek righteousness and to walk in the light of Your truth.
In all things, I entrust my heart and soul to You, trusting that You are working all things together for good. I thank You for hearing my prayer and for the assurance that You are always with me, guiding my path.
In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
