Most Holy and Gracious Father,

I come before Thee with reverence and with need, and I anchor my heart in Thy Word. As it is written in the King James Version: “Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” Lord, I confess that these words describe what my heart longs to live each day—dependence upon Thee, rejoicing in Thee, and steadfast pursuit of Thee.

Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast been my help. I look back over my life and I see Thy hand in ways I could not have planned, and in mercies I did not deserve. Thou hast helped me when I was too weary to lift my head, too confused to choose wisely, too burdened to carry my own thoughts. Thou hast helped me when prayers felt small and faith felt weak, and yet Thy strength did not fail. Thou hast helped me in the quiet places—where only Thou didst know the battles—granting endurance, restraint, wisdom, and peace. Thou hast helped me in open places too, providing what I needed at the right time, closing doors that would have harmed me, and opening paths that led me nearer to Thy will.

Therefore, Lord, “in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.” Teach me what it means to rejoice not merely when life is easy, but because I am sheltered in Thee. Let my joy rise from Thy protection, not from my circumstances. Let my rejoicing be worship—steady, humble, and grateful. When fear whispers of what might happen, draw me under Thy wings. When anxiety multiplies, remind me that I am not exposed, not abandoned, not forgotten. When sorrow visits, and my heart trembles, let me still find a holy gladness in Thy presence, because Thou art my refuge and my portion.

Lord, I bring to Thee my wandering thoughts and my divided desires, and I ask Thee to gather my heart into a single pursuit. Thy Word says, “My soul followeth hard after thee.” Make this true of me. Cause my soul to cling to Thee with sincerity, to seek Thee early and to seek Thee continually. Let me follow hard after Thee in prayer—when I feel close and when I feel far. Let me follow hard after Thee in obedience—when it costs me comfort, when it challenges my pride, when it requires me to forgive, to repent, to be honest, to be patient, and to be kind. Let me follow hard after Thee in holiness—turning away from what dulls my love for Thee and embracing what strengthens my devotion.

Father, I acknowledge that I cannot hold myself up. I cannot uphold my own spirit by willpower alone, nor can I secure my own soul against the storms of this world. So I cling to the promise: “thy right hand upholdeth me.” Uphold me when I feel weak in faith. Uphold me when temptations are near and my resolve feels thin. Uphold me when I am misunderstood, when burdens feel heavy, when my plans are interrupted, when my strength is spent. Uphold me when I succeed, too—keep me from pride, keep me from forgetting Thee, keep me from trusting in my own ability. Uphold me with Thy wisdom, that I may choose what honors Thee. Uphold me with Thy peace, that I may rest rather than strive. Uphold me with Thy love, that I may love others without bitterness or fear.

Lord, let my life be a testimony that Thou hast been my help. Let my words carry gratitude rather than complaint. Let my choices reveal that I am sheltered by Thy care. Let my heart be quick to rejoice beneath Thy wings and quick to return when I drift. Make my pursuit of Thee steady, not seasonal—deep, not shallow—daily, not occasional. And when I falter, remind me again that Thy right hand is stronger than my weakness, and Thy mercy is greater than my failure.

I praise Thee for being my help, my refuge, and my upholder. I rest my soul in the promise of Thy Word: “Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.”
