Prayer for Strength Amid Mockery
"All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying," - Psalms 22:7

O Lord, my God, the Creator of heaven and earth, I come before You today with a heavy heart. In this moment of vulnerability, I reflect upon the words of Psalm 22:7, where it is proclaimed, "All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying." How often have I felt the sting of scorn directed at me? How frequently have I been the target of ridicule and mockery from those around me? Yet, I know that You see my suffering; You hear my cries, and You understand my pain.
Heavenly Father, I stand before You, feeling small and unworthy, overwhelmed by the coldness of others who, in their ignorance, choose to mock rather than uplift. They do not know the battles I face, nor the struggles I endure. They may see only a glimpse of my life, misinterpreting my actions, my dreams, and my aspirations. In their laughter, I feel rejected, as if they dismiss the very essence of who I am. But I know that I am made in Your image, and it is in You that my worth is anchored.
Lord, grant me the strength to rise above the voices of derision that surround me. Enable me to find solace in Your unfailing love and to cultivate the understanding that their mockery reflects more on their character than on mine. Help me to remember that my true identity lies not in what others say, but in what You declare over my life. I am a child of the Most High, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). When I focus on Your promises and Your grace, the sting of mockery diminishes, and I am filled with renewed strength.
I pray, dear Lord, for those who choose to belittle others, that their hearts may be softened. Open their eyes to see beyond their judgments and assumptions. Help them to realize that their laughter can wound, and their scorn can destroy the spirit of those who strive to be better. May they find compassion in their hearts, and may their words turn from being instruments of mockery to tools of encouragement and support. I pray that they may encounter the love of Christ, which compels us to lift one another rather than tear each other down.
God, You are my refuge and my fortress; You are my stronghold in times of trouble. When I feel the weight of mockery pressing down upon me, help me to take refuge in You. Remind me to turn my eyes upon Jesus, who faced ridicule and scorn, yet remained steadfast in His pursuit of love and obedience. As He endured even the harshest of judgments, He spoke love and forgiveness over those who mocked Him. Instill within me that same spirit of perseverance and love.
As I walk through this world, may I be equipped to respond with grace, even in the face of contempt. Teach me to laugh joyfully in the face of adversity, knowing that a joyful heart is a gift that transcends circumstance. Let me be a light in the darkness, a source of strength to those who feel marginalized or dismissed. Help me to build bridges rather than walls, to extend love in place of hostility, and to embrace everyone with compassion, reflecting Your heart for humanity.
Wrap me in Your embrace, dear Lord. Shield me from the bitter sting of ridicule. When they shake their heads or laugh, let it not stir bitterness within me but rather a deeper reliance on Your perfect love. As I place my trust in You, I am empowered to continue on this journey, knowing that my faith will sustain me, and my hope is unshakeable.
In Your mighty name, I pray, Amen.
