A Prayer of Acknowledgment and Reflection on Psalm 118:22
"The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner." - Psalms 118:22

O Sovereign Lord,
In the quiet of this moment, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude and awe, reflecting upon Your divine wisdom and the profound truth revealed in Your Word. Psalm 118:22 reminds us that, "The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner." What a powerful testament to Your marvelous works and Your unfathomable ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
As I meditate on this verse, I recognize, O God, that You are the ultimate Builder, the Architect of our lives, and the Creator of all things. You have laid a foundation that is stronger than any earthly material, established with faith and anchored in love. And yet, in human folly, we often overlook what is precious, discarding the very stones You have chosen to become the cornerstones of our faith. Lord, I am humbled by the awareness that there have been moments in my own life where I have underestimated Your power at work, where I have underestimated Your plans for me and for those around me.
Open my eyes, Lord, to the stones that I have rejected. Help me to see the value in those I may have overlooked or disregarded. May I learn to appreciate the lessons and blessings that arise from unexpected places, recognizing that the very things the world casts aside can be transformed by Your hand into the foundation of something magnificent.
In Your Word, I find such rich comfort as I consider this truth. Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, was rejected by the builders — the religious leaders, the scholars, and the powerful. And yet, He rose again as the cornerstone of our faith, the very pinnacle of righteousness and salvation. I lift up my praise to You, Jesus, for You are that cornerstone, the rock upon which my life is built. In the face of life's trials and tribulations, I choose to cling to You and Your promises.
Lord, grant me the wisdom to recognize the cornerstone elements in my life — the relationships, the challenges, and the experiences meant to stir and shape me into Your likeness. Help me to cultivate a heart that seeks to uplift and build rather than tear down, to invite rather than refuse. Let me not be like those builders who neglected to recognize the significance of what was before them. Let me be a builder who diligently seeks out the stones You have laid, embracing every experience and every person that You place in my path, knowing that You have a purpose for each.
Father, I also pray for those around me who feel discarded, overlooked, or misunderstood. May they come to know their worth in Your eyes, for You have purposefully chosen each of us as essential parts of Your glorious plan. Remind us all that our value is not defined by the world’s standards but by the love that flows from Your heart. Help me to build up your people, proclaiming their worth and affirming their contributions in their families, in communities, and in churches.
As we go forth, Lord, inspire us to look past the surface, to see beyond the rejections and the failures, knowing all the while that through our trials, You are crafting our testimony and shaping us to reflect Your glory.
Thank You, God, for being our Cornerstone, for uniting us in purpose and love. May we forever praise Your name for the stone which the builders refused, for it has become our strength and salvation. Empower us to stand firm on this solid foundation, to build our lives according to Your will, and to invite others to do the same.
In the blessed name of Jesus, our Headstone and Savior, I pray. Amen.
