A Prayer Against Oppression and Injustice

"He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones." - Psalms 10:10

"He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones." - Psalms 10:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heart heavy with concern for the oppressed, the marginalized, and those who face injustice in our world. Your Word in Psalms 10:10 reminds us of the insidious nature of the wicked: "He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones." Lord, the image of the wicked crouching and scheming—using their strength to undermine the vulnerable—grieves my spirit. You see all, and Your justice is perfect.

Lord God, I pray for those who are caught in the grip of poverty. Please lift them up from the shadows of despair and hopelessness. It pains my heart to witness the struggle of the weak, the marginalized, and the downtrodden. You have called us to love our neighbor, and I ask that You give me and my community the courage to act on that calling. Help us to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a world that can so often turn a blind eye to suffering.

Lord, we see those who exploit the circumstances of others, the strong who take advantage of the poor. Their footsteps may seem to march ahead, but they walk on a path that is devoid of truth and righteousness. Grant us the wisdom to recognize their ways and the strength to stand against them. Equip us with the voice of the oppressed that we might advocate for them in the face of their oppressors.

In our society, we encounter those who pretend to be humble yet hide their malicious intent. They may bow low, but their hearts are proud. Lord, expose their wickedness, shine Your light into their darkness, and let no injustice remain in the shadows. I pray, Father, for the unfurling of Your mighty arm against those who abuse their power.

Heavenly Father, I cry out for justice. I believe that You are a God of justice, who sees the plight of the poor and hears their cries. Remember those who suffer under the strong hands of the wicked—those who lack access to basic necessities, who endure systemic oppression, and who live in fear. Your Scripture assures us that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). May they find their strength in You during their darkest hours.

I also beseech You, Lord, to touch the hearts of those in positions of power. Help them recognize their responsibility toward those less fortunate. May they choose compassion over greed, strength over dominance. Let their decisions reflect Your righteousness, promoting equity and justice for all.

Let the cries of the oppressed be met with a rallying of hearts who refuse to stand idle. Raise up advocates in every community, stir those who can compel change, and ferry justice to those life resides in broken spaces. Equip us with Your strength and wisdom as we pursue justice on behalf of the downtrodden.

Lord, You have told us in Your Word that You will not forget the cry of the humble. We humble ourselves before You, asking for mercy not only for those who suffer but for those in our hearts who may unwittingly carry out unjust deeds. Break the spirit of oppression and lead them to the truth that can only be found in You.

May Your spirit guide our steps, O Lord. As we commit ourselves to pray, speak and act, imbue us with a fierce love for justice. Help us remember that, although we see the weight of the world around us, we are empowered by You, the Almighty, the Comforter, who stands by the side of the brokenhearted and those whose spirits are crushed (Psalm 34:18).

In Your holy name, I pray,

Amen.
