A Prayer for Guidance and Discernment
"Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away." - Proverbs 4:15

Heavenly Father,
With a humble heart and a spirit longing for Your wisdom, we come before You today to seek Your guidance based on Your Word. Your teachings, O Lord, are a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). Today, as I reflect on the profound wisdom found in Proverbs 4:15, I earnestly implore You to instill in me the ability to heed the timeless admonition: “Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.”
Lord, You alone know the difficulties I face in this world filled with temptations and distractions. It is easy, Father, to find myself straying from the path You have set before me. I pray for the strength to avoid the snares of sin that seek to entrap my heart and divert my focus from You. Help me, Lord, to recognize the influences in my life that are contrary to Your will. Grant me the discernment to identify those temptations that lead me away from Your grace, and the courage to turn away from them without hesitation.
When the lures of the world seem appealing, remind me, dear God, of the wisdom in Your Word. Let Your Spirit stir within me a desire to resist those tempting moments, to choose rather the narrow road that leads to everlasting life (Matthew 7:14). Teach me, O Lord, that every time I encounter a situation that invites me into sin, I must remind myself of the consequences and darkness that it brings, not only to my spirit but to those around me whom I love.
Father, I ask for an unwavering spirit to be vigilant with my decisions and actions. May I develop a mindset that is constantly aware of how I am walking in Your truth. Give me the insight to know when to walk away, to pass not by the paths of destruction that seek to engulf me. When I feel tired or weary from the fight, grant me the peace that comes from knowing that my surrender to You means safety under Your wings.
As I pass through life’s journey, help me to turn from harmful enticements. Give me a heart that seeks after purity and righteousness. In moments of distraction or doubt, let me meditate on Your Word to anchor my soul, reminding myself of the importance of living above reproach. Instill in me a fear of You that is not paralyzing but liberating—a fear that drives me to keep my distance from the evil that Surround me.
Moreover, I recognize the importance of accountability in my walk. Teach me to surround myself with fellow believers who encourage and uplift me towards a life of holiness. May we mutually edify one another, reminding each other of the importance of avoiding those snares that so easily ensnare. Lord, give us the courage to speak truth into each other’s lives, helping to keep one another accountable in our pursuits of righteousness.
As I conclude my prayer, Lord, I thank You for Your unending grace that covers my shortcomings. Thank You, O God, for the promise that when I seek You with all my heart, I will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). I trust, Heavenly Father, that Your presence will be my guide and that through prayers like these, my heart will be prepared to avoid the paths that lead away from You.
In the name of Jesus, my Savior and Redeemer, I pray. Amen.
