A Prayer Against Envy and a Plea for Righteousness
"31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. 32 For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous." - Proverbs 3:31-32

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a heart full of gratitude and reverence, recognizing Your infinite wisdom and the depths of Your love for each of us. As I reflect on Your word in Proverbs 3:31-32, where it says, “Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous,” I seek Your guidance and strength to help me navigate the complexities of my life with grace and faithfulness.
Lord, You know the struggles I face in this world, where envy often creeps into my heart, whispering lies that lead me to desire what others possess and to admire those whose ways are contrary to Your righteousness. Help me, O God, to recognize that envy is a poison to my soul, leading me away from the joy and peace that come from You alone. I pray for the spirit of contentment and gratitude to fill my heart, that I may rejoice in the blessings You have bestowed upon me rather than longing for what others have.
Teach me, Father, to be mindful of the paths I choose. Enable me to discern the ways of the oppressor—the paths that may seem enticing and filled with promise but ultimately lead to destruction and despair. May I never compromise my integrity or my faith in pursuit of worldly gains. Remind me that the allure of prosperity gained through wickedness is but a fleeting shadow, and it is Your goodness that lasts forever.
I confess, Lord, that there are times when I have been tempted to envy those who oppress others, who seem to thrive by taking advantage of the weak. I acknowledge that it is my own heart that strays into jealousy when I perceive that the unjust are rewarded while the righteous seem to suffer. Yet, I know, Lord, that Your justice prevails, and You see all things. Help me trust in Your timing and Your judgment, knowing that You have promised to be with the righteous and to reveal to them the secrets of Your heart.
In the face of adversity, Lord, strengthen my resolve to remain steadfast in righteousness. Let my actions speak of Your love and truths, so that I may reflect Your character in every encounter. Teach me to walk humbly before You and to uphold integrity in my dealings with others. Let my testimony be a source of hope for those around me, drawing them away from oppression and toward the light of Your mercy.
As I align my heart with Yours, grant me the wisdom to seek Your secret in my life—the revelations that come only through a deep and abiding relationship with You. May I embrace the intimate communion You offer, understanding that the secrets imparted to the righteous are far more valuable than any material wealth or influence this world can provide. Let me seek Your knowledge, O Lord, and lean not on my own understanding, for Your ways are higher than mine, and Your thoughts are beyond comprehension.
I lift up those who are in positions of oppression, Lord. May they encounter Your grace and be transformed by Your love. Help me, too, to extend compassion toward them and to pray for their hearts to turn toward righteousness. Let me always remember that we are all in need of Your mercy and that Your desire is for all to come to repentance.
In all things, may I strive to honor You, Father, to reject the allure of envy and oppression, and to walk in the light of Your truth. Let my life be a song of praise that lifts up Your name in all circumstances. I ask this in the name of Jesus, who is my Savior and my guide.
Amen.
