A Prayer for Deliverance from Temptation

"To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life." - Proverbs 2:16-19

"To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life." - Proverbs 2:{verse.verse_number}

O Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with humble hearts, seeking Your protection and guidance. Your Word in Proverbs 2:16-19 warns us of the snares and temptations that lie in wait for us, and we desire to heed this counsel with all of our being. We acknowledge that without Your divine intervention, we are vulnerable to the flattering words and seductive promises of those that stray from Your path. Thus, we ask for Your strength to deliver us from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

Lord, we recognize that the enemy often uses deceitful voices to divert us from Your truth. The allure of temptation can be strong, and it beckons us towards paths that lead away from holiness, away from Your glory. O Lord, as Your Word states, the strange woman forsaketh the guide of her youth and forgetteth the covenant of her God. We pray for clarity, Lord, to discern these voices and to remember the covenant that You have established with us. Help us to hold fast to our commitments to You and to our loved ones, to cherish and uphold the sacred bonds that reflect Your love.

Help us, O God, to remain steadfast in our journey of faith. We pray that we would always turn back to the teachings that You have woven into our lives through scripture. Let Your Word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). Guard our hearts from becoming complacent or forgetful. Fill us with a fervor for Your truth, an unwavering dedication that helps us resist when temptations arise.

Lord, we are reminded that her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. We do not wish to walk into darkness, to choose paths that lead to spiritual death. We pray for wisdom to see the truth about the consequences of turning aside from Your ways. Let us understand that true life is found only in You, and that every step away from Your will leads us closer to destruction. May we hear Your gentle warnings in our hearts and respond with obedience and reverence.

Father, I also pray for those around us who may be struggling under the weight of temptation. We ask that You surround them with Your protection, just as You surround us. Help us to be instruments of encouragement and support for one another, so that together, we may resist the allure of sin. Strengthen the bonds of our community in faith, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles.

O Lord, we also ask for grace. For grace to forgive ourselves and each other when we stumble, and for the courage to seek reconciliation with You and with those we hurt. Remind us of Your unfailing love and mercy, which welcome us back with open arms despite our failings. May we never forget that, through Christ, we are offered redemption and renewal.

In moments of weakness, remind us that none that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. Help us to cling to the paths of life that You so graciously provide. Fortify us with strength, let us be people who seek life abundantly (John 10:10) and who turn away from the lies that threaten to ensnare us.

Heavenly Father, in Your abundant mercy, we commit to walk in Your ways all the days of our lives. We trust in Your promises, knowing that Your plan for us is good, pleasing, and perfect (Romans 12:2). May we always delight in Your statutes and find refuge in Your presence.

We place our trust in You, our Deliverer. In Jesus’ powerful name, we pray. Amen.
