A Prayer for Peace and Wisdom in Dealing with Contention
"Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease." - Proverbs 22:10

Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your divine guidance and mercy. As I meditate on the wisdom of Proverbs 22:10, which says, "Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease," I find myself drawn to the profound truth contained in these words. Lord, I recognize that You desire peace and harmony in our lives, and I ask for Your help in cultivating an environment free from discord and strife.
Father, in my own life, I have encountered various forms of contention, whether it be in my relationships, my workplace, or even in my community. I understand that a scorner – one who mocks and ridicules – creates an atmosphere where strife flourishes. Help me, O Lord, to identify the scorners in my life. Grant me discernment to recognize when negativity and contempt are present, whether in my own actions or those around me.
I pray for the wisdom to cast out these influences from my sphere of existence. Lord, let me not entertain scornful thoughts or share in conversations that breed strife and reproach. Instead, guide me toward love and understanding. Teach me to respond with kindness, even when faced with mockery or disdain. Help me to embody the teachings of Your Word, offering grace where complaint could easily arise.
Jesus, I ask that You fill me with the courage to stand firm against contention. Remind me that speaking truth in love can sometimes be difficult, yet it leads to healing and restoration. Instill in me a heart that seeks reconciliation rather than retaliation, understanding rather than argument. May my conversations be seasoned with Your love, aiming for peace rather than conflict.
Lord, as I pursue this path, I recognize that I, too, must be accountable for my actions. Help me to examine my own heart for any scornful thoughts or disparaging remarks I may have harbored in my spirit. Purify my intentions and align them with Your will so that I may be a vessel for Your peace. Teach me to speak life into every situation, dispelling darkness with the light of Your Word.
Almighty God, I lift up all those in my life who may struggle with strife and contention. Intercede in their hearts, granting them the humility to renounce scorn and embrace compassion. May they be moved to seek resolution rather than division, love instead of resentment. Surround us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let our discussions and interactions be filled with grace and understanding.
Father, let my home, my relationships, and my community reflect Your peace. Help us to create atmospheres filled with joy and kindness, where contention has no place. May we be known for our love and unity, and may the world see the light of Christ shining through us.
In times of disagreement, remind us that You are our mediator and advocate. Encourage us to come together in prayer and seek Your wisdom above our differences. Help us to trust in Your plan and purpose, knowing that every dispute can be resolved through dialogue bathed in love and respect.
As I close this prayer, I surrender all my conflicts to You. Cast out the scorner, Lord, and drive strife far from us. Fill our lives with Your abiding peace, and may we constantly strive to uplift one another. Thank You for hearing my prayer, and prepare our hearts for the resolution and fellowship that only You can provide.
In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray,
Amen.
