A Prayer for Strength Against Mockery and Opposition
"But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews." - Nehemiah 4:1

O Sovereign Lord,
As we gather before You in this moment of reflection and supplication, we bring to mind the words recorded in Nehemiah 4:1, which state, "But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.” Lord, how often we find ourselves inspired to undertake great works, only to be met with the scorn and derision of those who seek to undermine our efforts! We acknowledge that just as Nehemiah faced fierce opposition in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, so do we encounter challenges that test our resolve and commitment to the tasks set before us.
Heavenly Father, we seek Your strength and wisdom as we embark on the endeavors You have laid upon our hearts. We are reminded that each brick we lay in our lives—whether it be in our families, our communities, or our personal growth—can provoke the ire of those who feel threatened by our progress or those who live in opposition to Your will. Like Sanballat, they may express great wrath and indignation, believing that mocking our efforts will demoralize us and deter us from our mission. Yet we know, Lord, that You are our fortress and our refuge in times of trouble.
Quiet our hearts, dear Lord, and fill us with courage to withstand the ridicule that comes from those who do not comprehend the vision You have placed in us. Help us remember that the call to rebuild, to restore, and to renew is not for our glory but for Yours. In moments when we feel disheartened and tempted to abandon our cause due to taunts and jeers, remind us that our strength comes from You. Your Word assures us, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13). Let this truth resonate within us, fortifying our determination and igniting our spirit.
Lord, we pray for those who mock and scorn us. We ask that You would soften their hearts, that they might come to see the light of Your truth. Let their disbelief not lead them to further acts of division or derision, but instead lead them to seek understanding and, ultimately, reconciliation. Let our responses to their mockery be laced with grace, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to our mission. May we embody love and kindness in the face of opposition, knowing that we strive not against flesh and blood but against the principalities that seek to thwart Your divine plans.
Father, we seek Your guidance in our actions. As Nehemiah motivated his people to work together against opposition, may we similarly inspire unity and collaboration among those around us. Instill in us a vision of collective strength, encouraging one another to press on despite any burdens we may carry. Help us to lift one another in prayer, strength, and encouragement. Let our bond as members of Your family be a testament to the greater work that Your Spirit is doing among us.
As we bring our concerns before You, we turn our eyes outward, praying for our communities that they might be places of encouragement rather than derision. Lord, we ask that You would raise up individuals who will support and uplift us in our efforts, who will stand against the tides of negativity and create an atmosphere of hope and resilience.
Finally, Lord, we thank You for the courage and valor that You bestow upon us. Even amid mockery, we stand firm in our conviction to build walls of safety, love, and hope. May our work be a reflection of Your goodness and grace, a beacon to those lost in darkness. As we undertake this daunting work, remind us always that we labor not in vain, but for You, our God, the ultimate Architect and Builder of all creation.
In the precious name of Jesus, we lift this prayer. Amen.
