A Prayer for Discernment and Trust in God Alone
"¶ Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom." - Micah 7:5

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, acknowledging Your power and supremacy over all things. You are our Creator and Sustainer, the One who sees the end from the beginning. In a world filled with uncertainty and deception, we turn to You for guidance, protection, and truth. Your Word reminds us in Micah 7:5, "Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom." Lord, these words resonate deeply in our hearts and minds as we reflect on the relationships in our lives and the importance of placing our trust solely in You.
Father, we live in times when it can be all too easy to rely on those around us—friends, family, and mentors alike—for comfort and assurance. Yet Your Scripture warns us that human dependency can sometimes lead us astray. Teach us, Lord, to seek our trust in You above all else. Help us to recognize that while others can provide wisdom, encouragement, and companionship, they are not infallible. Only You, Father, are the ultimate guide and counselor who will never lead us into error.
As we navigate our daily lives, help us to be wise and discerning. Grant us the ability to perceive the intentions of those around us, to judge whether their words and actions align with Your truth and compassion. We ask that You sharpen our discernment, allowing us to see beyond appearances and pleasant words into the motivations that perhaps lie underneath. Empower us to hold true to Your teachings as we evaluate the relationships we foster. As friends come and go, help us to remember that true friendship is rooted in Your love and truth.
We also ask for Your protection against betrayal and deceit. In our human experiences, we may encounter trust broken, whether through intentional deception or unintentional disappointment. Shield us from those who would lead us astray or manipulate our trust for their own gain. Guard our hearts, Lord, and help us to be resilient in the face of disloyalty and unfaithfulness.
In our interactions, may we always seek to speak truth and love. Let our words reflect Your grace and wisdom, ensuring that we do not become instruments of gossip or deceit ourselves. Help us to keep our intentions pure, guarding the words that come from our mouths. May our conversations build others up rather than tear them down, and may we always seek reconciliation and understanding.
Father, should we find ourselves feeling lonely or isolated, remind us that You are our closest friend, our most trustworthy companion. Help us to develop a deeper relationship with You, to lean on You in times of need, and to find comfort in Your presence. May we find solace in Your promises, knowing that You will never leave us nor forsake us. In every situation where our trust is tested, let our reliance on You grow stronger.
We pray for courage to make decisions rooted in our trust in You, regardless of the opinions of those around us. Encourage us to speak boldly when we must, to stand firm in our beliefs, and to be a light in the darkness. May our faith be contagious, inspiring those near us to seek You above all else.
Finally, we ask that You surround us with trustworthy hearts—those who genuinely seek You and reflect Your love. Bless our relationships with individuals who encourage us in our walk of faith, whose guidance leads us closer to You, and who hold us accountable in our commitment to live according to Your will.
In all things, let us remember that true trust and confidence are found in You alone. We thank You for the wisdom found in Your Word and the love that directs our paths. We close this prayer with gratitude for Your unfailing faithfulness and the promise that You will guide us in truth and righteousness.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
