A Prayer for Discernment in Knowing Others by Their Fruits
"Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." - Matthew 7:20

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts full of reverence and humility, acknowledging Your sovereignty and wisdom that surpasses all human understanding. As we gather in Your presence, we reflect on the words of Your sacred Scriptures, particularly Matthew 7:20, which declares, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Lord, we seek to grasp the full implications of this profound truth, and we ask for Your guidance and discernment as we navigate our relationships with others.
Father, we recognize that the fruits that manifest in our lives—our actions, behaviors, and attitudes—are reflections of our inner selves. We earnestly ask that You help us cultivate good fruit within our hearts. May the fruits of the Spirit, as described in Galatians 5:22-23, blossom in our lives: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. Help us to live in such a way that others can see the goodness of Your character reflected in us.
Lord, grant us the wisdom to discern the fruits in the lives of those around us. When we interact with others, may we look beyond mere appearances and seek the truth that resides in each person’s heart. Enable us to observe the evidence of their faith through their actions, words, and the way they treat others. Help us to recognize the signs of Your work in their lives, and may our observations be steeped in grace and understanding.
In a world that often glorifies superficiality, help us to focus on what truly matters. Let us not be swayed by charm or empty promises but empower us to judge righteously, based on the fruits that we see. Grant us patience and sincerity, as we navigate the complexities of human relationships, whether within our families, among friends, or in our communities. May we always lead with love and compassion, understanding that each person is on their unique journey towards You.
Father, when we see negative or harmful fruits, allow us to respond with wisdom. Help us to address such matters with kindness and humility, seeking restoration rather than condemnation. Let our goal be to point others towards Your truth and love, rather than to judge or criticize. Strengthen our resolve to be instruments of peace and advocates for righteousness, ever seeking to illuminate the path to salvation that only You can provide.
We also pray for ourselves, Lord. May we remain vigilant and intentional about the fruits we produce. Keep us humble and aware, that we may continually check our motives and desires against Your will. Protect us from becoming complacent or self-righteous, and instill in us the urgency to seek Your face daily. Help us to bear fruit in every season, regardless of the circumstances that surround us, as a testament to Your faithfulness and grace in our lives.
Lord, we pray specifically for those who are struggling to see the fruits in their lives or in the lives of others. We ask for Your help in restoring hope and clarity. May Your Holy Spirit bring forth new seeds of faith, nourishment, and sustenance so that we may flourish. Remind us that only You can transform hearts and that every good fruit comes from abiding in You.
As we move forward, may we be ever mindful that actions speak louder than words. Let us be known by the fruit we produce, a true reflection of who we are in You. May our lives point others toward You, the source of all goodness and truth.
We thank You, Lord, for Your unwavering love and for the ability to bear fruit that honors Your name. We place our hopes, our relationships, and our lives into Your capable hands. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray.
Amen.
