A Prayer for Devotion and Single-mindedness in Serving You
"¶ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." - Matthew 6:24

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You in humble reverence this day, I reflect on the profound truth revealed in Your Word, particularly in Matthew 6:24, where it states, ‘No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.’ Lord, these words resonate deeply within my heart, reminding me of the importance of my devotion and allegiance to You.
In a world filled with distractions and competing loyalties, I recognize the constant battle between material pursuits and spiritual integrity. I confess, at times I have allowed the allure of mammon—the wealth, possessions, and desires of this world—to draw my focus away from You. I find myself torn between what is temporal and what is eternal, and I seek Your guidance to help me navigate this complexity.
Lord, grant me the wisdom to discern the voice of truth amidst the noise of the world. Help me to identify every aspect in my life where I may inadvertently serve something other than You. Strengthen my resolve, so that I might prioritize my relationship with You above all else. Clear my heart of any duplicity, for I desire to serve You wholeheartedly, free from the entanglements that seek to bind my spirit.
Teach me, O Lord, the value of true contentment that comes from relying on You rather than the transient nature of worldly wealth. May I echo the sentiments of the psalmist who sings, ‘The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want’ (Psalm 23:1). Let me find my fulfillment in You alone, understanding that the riches of heaven far surpass the fleeting gains of this earth.
I pray for the grace to cultivate a heart that treasures You above all. Remove from me the love of material possessions and a desire for status that leads to anxiety and fear. Help me understand that the pursuit of wealth can often lead to division within my soul. I long to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, and I ask for the Holy Spirit’s help in aligning my passions with this holy calling.
As I navigate my daily life, may my actions reflect a singular devotion to You, Lord. May my words be those that uplift Your name and bring Others closer to Your heart; let my finances, time, and talents be dedicated to kingdom work rather than self-serving interests. Teach me to be a good steward of the resources You have entrusted to me, using them not for selfish gain but for the expansion of Your glory here on earth.
I pray that my heart will be tethered to You so that I may find peace in times of plenty and in times of lack. Let me embrace the truth that my worth is not defined by what I possess but by who I am in You. Help me stand firm against the temptations of envy and greed, reminding me daily of the rich inheritance I have in You.
Finally, Lord, I ask for strength for those around me who may struggle with divided loyalties. In a society that often prioritizes wealth over the well-being of the spirit, may I be an example of Your love and truth. Empower me to share the good news that true life is found in serving You alone.
In all things, let Your will be done in my life, and may I proclaim steadfastly that, indeed, I cannot serve two masters but choose, wholeheartedly, to serve You, my God.
In the name of Jesus, the only Master worth serving, I pray.
Amen.
