“He Is Risen, As He Said”: A Prayer of Resurrection Faith and Living Hope
"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay." - Matthew 28:6

Most Holy God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, I come before Thee with reverence and awe, and I set my heart upon the triumphant word of Scripture: “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Lord, let this testimony not be a distant report to my soul, but a living proclamation that reshapes my mind, steadies my heart, and orders my steps. I praise Thee that the grave did not keep my Saviour, that death did not have the final word, and that Thy promise proved true in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Lord, I confess that I often look for life in places that cannot give it. I confess that I return to tombs of old shame, old fear, and old patterns, as though my hope still lies buried. Forgive me for searching among the dead for what only the living Christ can provide. Teach me, by Thy Spirit, to hear again the clear declaration: “He is not here.” When my thoughts spiral into despair, remind me that the empty place where the Lord lay is not an absence to fear, but a victory to behold. Help me to “Come, see the place where the Lord lay,” not merely with the eyes of imagination, but with the eyes of faith—seeing that what held Him cannot hold me, and what condemned me has been answered by His life.
Thou hast shown Thy faithfulness in the words “as he said.” Lord, I thank Thee that Jesus is risen exactly as He promised. Strengthen my trust in every word Thou hast spoken. When I am tempted to doubt, anchor me to this simple certainty: what Christ said is true. Give me the grace to take Thee at Thy word when circumstances argue otherwise. When prayers seem unanswered, when grief feels heavy, when my heart is tired of waiting, let me remember “as he said.” Make Thy promises more real to me than my fears. Let the resurrection be the great yes in my soul, declaring that Thou art faithful, Thou art mighty, and Thou dost not fail.
Lord Jesus, I worship Thee as the Living One. I adore Thee that Thou didst enter death and came forth in power. Because “he is risen,” I ask for resurrection power in my everyday life. Raise up what has fallen in me: raise my hope where it has withered, raise my obedience where it has weakened, raise my love where it has grown cold, raise my joy where it has been smothered by worry. Where I have buried unforgiveness, bring it to the light and replace it with mercy. Where I have buried callings and holy desires beneath disappointment, breathe upon them again. Where I feel trapped by habits I cannot seem to break, speak life and lead me in newness.
“Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Father, let me look honestly at the places of loss and sorrow in my own life, yet not as one without hope. Teach me to stand at the empty tomb of every false finality, and to learn that Thou art able to bring life out of what seems finished. Let the memory of the Lord’s burial remind me that Thou art acquainted with grief, and let the proclamation of the Lord’s rising assure me that grief shall not reign forever. Help me to carry this hope into my home, my work, my church, and my community.
Lord, as the empty tomb testifies that Jesus lives, let my life also testify. Make me bold without bitterness, gentle without fear, steady without pride. Give me words seasoned with grace, deeds shaped by truth, and a spirit that reflects the peace of the risen Christ. Let me not only admire the resurrection from afar, but live as one who has been changed by it—turning from sin, turning from compromise, turning from self, and turning toward Thee with a whole heart.
I thank Thee that the story does not end at the place where the Lord lay. I thank Thee that the stone was rolled away, not to let Christ out, but to let faith in. So roll away the stones in my mind—stones of cynicism, stones of unbelief, stones of resentment, stones of paralysis. Open my heart to the living Christ, and make me a witness of Thy saving power.
I rest my soul again in the holy announcement: “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” Receive my worship, strengthen my faith, and lead me in the light of this victory, until my days are completed and I behold Thee face to face. In the name of Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, I pray. Amen.
