A Commissioned Heart: A Prayer for Disciple-Making
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." - Matthew 28:19-20

Heavenly Father,
In the quiet of this moment, I come before You with a humble heart, reflecting on the profound words of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who commanded us in Matthew 28:19-20, saying, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
Lord, I recognize the weight of this Great Commission. You have entrusted us with the sacred task of teaching and reaching the world with the transformative message of the Gospel. May my heart burn with a passion for the lost, echoing Your desire that all should come to know You. I ask for the courage to heed Your call—to go into the highways and byways of life, seeking souls that are hungry for the saving knowledge of Jesus.
As I embark on this journey, fill me with Your Spirit that I may go forth with boldness and love. Let me be equipped, both in knowledge and spirit, to share the Good News of Christ in a way that is relatable and clear. Teach me how to communicate effectively, taking into consideration the unique backgrounds and cultures of those I encounter. I pray for wisdom to tailor my message—that it may resonate in the hearts of those who hear it.
Father, as I strive to fulfill this command, I also bring before You the nations that are lost in darkness, those who have never heard Your name or had the opportunity to respond to Your grace. Break my heart for the things that break Yours. May I not grow weary in praying for those who are far from You. Stir within me a spirit of compassion that drives me to action, whether it be through direct evangelism, supporting missionaries, or serving my community in Your name.
I plead for the anointing of Your Holy Spirit upon every outreach effort, every conversation, and every relationship. Bring forth divine appointments that lead to meaningful engagements. May I remember to plant seeds of faith in every interaction, trusting that You will cause them to grow in due time.
As we engage in baptizing, may I help lead others into repentance and faith in You, Father and Son, and Holy Ghost. Let these acts be rich with the understanding of the covenant we have with You. Help me to celebrate their decision to follow Christ and integrate them into a community of believers where they can thrive and grow in their faith.
Lord, I pray for the strength to teach others—teaching them to observe all things You have commanded us. May I live in such a way that my actions reflect Your teachings. Help me to model integrity, humility, and love, so that they may see You in me. Let my life be a testament of Your grace, and let my words be a reflection of Your truth.
And as You promised, I hold fast to the reminder that You are with us always, even unto the end of the world. Amid the challenges, opposition, and weariness that ministry may bring, may I find peace and comfort in Your abiding presence. You are my strength and my shield, and I lean into that promise daily.
Father, ignite a movement of unwavering discipleship that transforms lives—a movement that stands firmly on the truth of Scripture and seeks to fulfill the Great Commission with fervor and faithfulness. Teach us, Your Church, to rise up in this calling, to teach all nations, until the day You return to gather Your people unto Yourself.
Thank You for hearing my prayer, Lord. I look forward to seeing how You will work through me and through Your Church. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
