A Prayer for Faithful Stewardship
"¶ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods." - Matthew 25:14

O Great and Sovereign Lord,
We come before You today with hearts attuned to Your Word, bowing in reverence and gratitude for the profound truths found within the sacred pages of Scripture. As we contemplate the powerful message contained in Matthew 25:14, we are reminded of Your immeasurable love and the great trust You place in us, Your servants. Your Holy Word states, "For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods."
Heavenly Father, we recognize that You are the master of all creation, the one who owns every treasure and every resource. You are the giver of all good gifts, and we stand in awe of Your generosity. In this parable, we see a reflection of Your kingdom and the responsibilities You have bestowed upon us. We acknowledge that we are but stewards of the gifts that You have granted us, whether they be talents, time, or treasures. Each of these gifts has been entrusted into our care with a purpose in Your divine plan.
As we gather in Your presence, Lord, we seek wisdom and courage to fulfill our roles as faithful stewards. Help us to understand the significance of the 'goods' You have placed in our hands. Enable us to manage our time with care, treating every moment as a precious opportunity to serve You and to serve others. May we not squander these moments in frivolity or distraction, but rather invest them in acts of kindness, love, and compassion, reflecting Your light to the world around us.
Lord, grant us the strength to use our talents wisely. Each skill and each ability is a gift from You, and we are called to develop and expand these gifts for the glory of Your name. Foster in us a spirit of innovation and creativity as we seek to contribute positively to Your kingdom. May we utilize our unique talents not for our own gain, but to uplift those around us and to build up Your church. Let our efforts encourage and inspire others to embrace their own callings, reminding them of the importance of sharing their gifts as well.
Moreover, we ask for Your guidance and discernment in managing the resources You have blessed us with. Teach us to be generous, to open our hearts and our hands freely to those in need. Help us to recognize that true wealth is found in sharing and giving, rather than hoarding or holding back. May our lives be a testament to the love and grace of Christ as we extend help to the less fortunate, the downtrodden, and the marginalized.
In acknowledging our roles as servants who await the return of our Master, we also recognize the responsibility to remain vigilant and faithful. We pray for perseverance and dedication in our stewardship, especially in times of difficulty or discouragement. Strengthen our resolve to act in faith, knowing that we are accountable to You for how we have used what You’ve entrusted to us. Let us not fall prey to fear of failure, but instead embrace the truth that we are co-workers with You in this journey of life.
Heavenly Father, we long for the day when we will hear those cherished words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Until that day comes, help us to faithfully steward all that You have given us. May Your Spirit guide us as we work in Your fields, sharing the love of Christ with the world, and encouraging others to tool their gifts for Your glory. Let us be known as a generation of faithful servants, eagerly anticipating the Master's return.
In Jesus’ name, we pray,
Amen.

Matthew 25:14-30 - "“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’"
