Holy Father, Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth, I come before Thee in reverence and in awe, acknowledging that Thy Word is true and everlasting. Thou hast spoken plainly by the mouth of Thy Son, and I bow my heart before the warning and the comfort that are found in His words. Today I take hold of the Scripture in Matthew 24:27, and I confess it with faith, for it is written: “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Lord, let this Word settle deeply within me. As lightning is sudden, bright, and unmistakable, so shall the coming of the Son of man be—clear to every eye, beyond denial, beyond human control, beyond the ability of man to predict or manipulate. I ask Thee to deliver me from spiritual dullness and from the lazy comfort that causes the soul to forget eternity. Stir my spirit to remember that time is moving forward, that life is a vapour, and that the day appointed by Thee is sure.

Father, I repent of every way I have lived as though this world were my lasting home. Forgive me for the moments when I have loved ease more than obedience, when I have feared man more than I have feared Thee, when I have chased after temporary things while neglecting the weightier matters of devotion, holiness, and love. Cleanse me, Lord, and wash me thoroughly. Prepare my heart so that I will not be ashamed at His appearing. Let there be nothing hidden, nothing cherished in secret, no bitterness held tightly, no unforgiveness excused, no compromise made comfortable. Make my heart clean, and make my hands clean, that I may stand in Thy presence with sincerity.

O God, teach me to watch and to pray. Help me not to be distracted by noise, confusion, and rumors, but to be anchored in Thy truth. Keep me from deception and from the pride that thinks it cannot be deceived. Give me discernment, that I may love what is good and refuse what is evil. Let me not be carried away by fear, nor hardened by cynicism, nor lulled by entertainment, but let me be sober, steady, and faithful. In my daily choices—my words, my thoughts, my habits, my relationships—make me mindful that the Son of man shall come, and that His coming will be as unmistakable as lightning across the sky.

Lord Jesus, I confess that I need Thee. Strengthen my faith when it is weak. Renew my hope when it grows dim. Teach me to live with oil in my lamp, to live ready, to live in such a way that my life testifies that I am waiting for Thee. Let me not merely speak of Thy return, but let me live in the power of it. Make my obedience practical. Make my love visible. Make my worship sincere. Use me to encourage others, to lift up the weary, to strengthen the doubting, and to call the wandering back to Thee.

Father, I pray for my family, my friends, my neighbors, and all whom Thou hast placed in my path. Have mercy upon them, O God. Awaken hearts that are asleep to eternal things. Draw the lost to repentance. Heal the broken with Thy comfort. Give courage to those who fear, and humility to those who boast. Make Thy church pure and steadfast, not divided by vanity and strife, but united in truth and in love, shining as a witness in a dark world. Let there be a holy readiness among Thy people—a longing for righteousness, a hunger for Thy presence, a burning desire to be found faithful.

And when that day comes, Lord—when the lightning of Thy glory flashes from east to west, and the coming of the Son of man is revealed—grant that I may not be found clinging to sin or clinging to self, but clinging to Thee. Let me be ready, not in my own strength, but by Thy grace. Let my heart rejoice rather than tremble, because I have trusted in Thy mercy and walked in Thy ways.

I hold fast to Thy Word, for it is written: “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Keep me faithful until that glorious appearing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
