A Heart of Love: A Prayer Inspired by Matthew 22:37-39
"King James Version (KJV) 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." - Matthew 22:37-39

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You, I am reminded of the words Your Son, Jesus, spoke to us, urging us to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind. Lord, I kneel before Your throne, acknowledging that You are the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and I am but a humble servant in Your grand design. Help me to embrace this commandment fully, to love You not just with surface affection but with the very essence of my being.
Lord, I seek to love You with all my heart. May my heart beat in rhythm with Your desires and purpose. Cleanse me from all impurities that seek to hinder my love for You. This world is laden with distractions that pull my heart in various directions. Help me to remain steadfast, to anchor my affections in Your eternal love, for you are the source of all that is good, pure, and righteous. Father, I surrender every worry and fear that tries to invade my heart. Fill it instead with Your peace and joy, so that my love for You pours forth in every thought and action.
Every day I strive to nurture my relationship with You, cultivating growth in my faith and understanding of Your Word. Teach me, Lord, to meditate on Your truth, to soak my mind in the knowledge of Your goodness and mercy. May my thoughts continually reflect back to You, as I lean not on my own understanding but trust in Your wisdom. Help me to seek You in every decision I make, allowing my love for You to shape my priorities, guiding every passion and dream, so that I may honor You in my life.
Lord, let my soul be entwined with Yours. Help me to recognize the deep spiritual connection we share and to develop a hunger for Your presence. As Your Word says, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy soul.’ Let my soul cry out to You in times of both joy and struggle. I long to worship you not just with my voice but with my very being, offering You my praises as a living sacrifice. Teach me to recognize the sacredness of my life and to hold it as a treasure, mirroring the love You have shown me.
And as I reflect on Your second commandment, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,’ I am reminded of the profound truth that flows from this directive. Lord, help me to see those around me through Your eyes. Instill within me a genuine love for my neighbors, recognizing that they, too, are created in Your image. May my heart be moved by compassion for the broken, the lost, and those who suffer. Let my love for them mirror the relentless love You have shown to me, so I can be a beacon of hope and kindness in a weary world.
Grant me the humility to serve others selflessly, to allow my actions to showcase the love You so freely give. May my love not be conditional or superficial, but rather a reflection of Your unconditional love and grace. Push me towards acts of kindness, encouraging me to lift those who are downtrodden. As I love others, let it be a testament of my love for You, for when I serve them, I serve You.
Lord, in all things, I desire to love You wholly and to be an instrument of Your love on this earth. I pray for strength and wisdom to carry this commandment in my heart. Help me to be courageous in loving others as I love myself, promoting unity and understanding in my community. Together, let us embody Your love, allowing it to touch every heart and soul in our path.
In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
