A Prayer for the Protection of the Innocent

"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." - Matthew 18:6

"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." - Matthew 18:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

In the quietness of this moment, I come before You with a heart full of reverence and concern. I am reminded of the profound words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 18:6, where He warns us, saying, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." Lord, these words penetrate deep into the marrow of my soul, urging me to reflect on my responsibilities, especially toward those who are vulnerable and innocent.

O Father, I lift up the little ones unto You, the precious children who inhabit this world. They walk in innocence, trusting in the goodness of others, believing in Your love and provision. I ask You, Lord, to extend Your mighty hand of protection over them. Shield them from harm, protect them from those who seek to exploit, deceive, or lead them astray. Remind us all of the gravity of our actions and the significant impact they have on these tender hearts.

Lord, in the tumultuous world we live in, where darkness often masquerades as light, I pray that You instill in us an unwavering sense of responsibility towards children. May we always remember the weightiness of the warning that You imparted to us, echoing the depths of Your justice and righteousness. Help us to stand as guardians of the innocent, ensuring their safety and nurturing their faith.

Father, I bring before You those who have suffered because of the offenses of others, the ones who have been led astray, who have encountered betrayal, or who have been placed in harm’s way. May Your comforting presence surround them; may they find solace in Your unfailing love and grace. Heal their wounds, both seen and unseen, and restore their faith in humanity and in You. Remove from their lives any bitterness or resentment that may cling to their hearts, and replace it with hope, joy, and a renewed spirit.

O God, stir the hearts of those in positions of authority, the leaders and guardians that You have placed in our communities and nations. Open their eyes to the needs of the vulnerable. Grant them wisdom to act justly and courage to defend the oppressed. May they understand the severity of causing harm to those who cannot defend themselves. I pray that their hearts would be moved by compassion and their hands would be swift in action to protect the innocent from the snares of the wicked.

And, Lord, I beseech You to strengthen the families who have been entrusted with the care of these little ones. Give parents, guardians, and mentors the discernment to recognize danger before it strikes. Help them to be vigilant, wise, and steady guides in the lives of the children they nurture. May they cultivate homes filled with love and faith, where children can grow secure in their identities as Your beloved creations. Lead them in teaching the truth of Your Word so that these little ones may develop a strong foundation in faith, and may that faith shield them against the offenses of this world.

Lord, I commit every effort to protect our children’s innocence into Your mighty hands. May we always be aware of our influence and strive to never lead anyone, especially these little ones, into temptation or harm. Help us to foster environments of safety, respect, and love as we reflect Your heart for the world.

Finally, I pray for our own hearts, that we would remain sensitive and compassionate towards others. Help us to see the world through Your eyes—eyes that see the plight of the innocent and act boldly in their defense. Transform us into instruments of Your peace, love, and justice.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
