A Prayer for Faith and Deliverance

"When they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." - Matthew 17:14-21

O Gracious and Merciful Father,

As I approach Your holy presence, I echo the words of a desperate father, kneeling before You, yearning for Your tender mercy. "Lord, have mercy on my son." Just like that anguished man, I come before You bearing the heavy burdens of my heart, knowing that You are a compassionate Savior who hears every cry, every plea. In Matthew 17:14-21 we witness the depths of despair when illness, affliction, and unrelenting forces conspire against us. I admit, O Lord, there are moments when I feel like that father, confronted by challenges that seem insurmountable, pleading for freedom from chains that bind.

Just as the father approached Your disciples and found them unable to heal his son, I often look around and see the limitations of human efforts to bring about relief and restoration. I pray, Father, not only for myself but for those I hold dear. If there are those around me who are unwell—physically, mentally, spiritually—I lift them up to You today. I beseech You to bring forth the healing they so desperately need. Your Word states that You rebuked the devil, and he departed from that child. Therefore, I declare in Your mighty name that every evil force causing strife and suffering, every spirit of addiction, depression, or fear, must flee from my loved ones.

I acknowledge, Lord, my own limitations and the times I have faltered in faith. You said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?" Forgive me, Father, for the moments I have failed to trust in Your power and authority. Help me to understand that Your presence is with me, and that You are ever willing to act on behalf of those who believe in You. Teach me, Master, to cultivate a faith that is unshakeable, faith that is even as small as a mustard seed. You have promised that with such faith, mountains can be removed.

I bring forth the mountains in my life before You—mountains of doubt, obstacles of despair, and challenges that seem too great to bear. I declare Your Word over these mountains, trusting that they will be cast into the sea by the power of Your might. Lord, remind me that nothing is impossible with You. Let me once again be imbued with the hope and conviction that springs from belief in Your promises. Stir a zeal in my heart to seek after You, knowing that it is through prayer and fasting that I gain strength in the spiritual battles I face.

As I meditate on the truth of Your teachings, help me to understand the importance of drawing close to You through prayer. Let my prayers be filled with humility and earnestness, a reflection of my desire for Your intervention in every area of my life and the lives of others. As I put away distractions and seek You in fasting and in prayer, allow me to experience a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit, my Lord. Deepen my spiritual resolve, transforming my heart and soul to align with Your heavenly will.

Let your Holy Spirit cultivate seeds of faith within me, nourished by the richness of Your Word and the depth of my relationship with You. As I read Your scriptures, may they ignite a fire within my soul, guiding me to step out in faith like the father who brought his son to You. Let my response to Your call be one of complete trust, hoping against hope, believing confidently in the God of the impossible.

In conclusion, I place this prayer in Your loving hands, trusting that You hear me and will answer according to Your perfect will. Help me to remain steadfast in faith, constantly kneeling at Your feet, who alone is worthy.

In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray,

Amen.

Matthew 17:14-21

Matthew 17:14-21 - "When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. "Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."

"You unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me." Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

In some manuscripts, verse 21 is added as "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.""
