A Prayer for Healing and Understanding: Drawing Near to the Lord

"¶ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying," - Matthew 17:14

"¶ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying," - Matthew 17:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude and awe for Your mercy and grace. We recognize, Lord, that You are the Almighty One, the Creator of heaven and earth, who sustains us with Your endless love and compassion. As we reflect on the words from Matthew 17:14, we remind ourselves of the importance of humility and the power of faith that is displayed in the actions of the man who approached Jesus, kneeling down in reverence.

"And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying…"

Lord, we seek to emulate this man’s spirit of supplication and belief. He came before Jesus not merely seeking help but with a heart laid bare, humbly acknowledging his need for divine intervention. Equip us, O Lord, with the same sincere disposition, so that when we come to You in our moments of need—whether it be for ourselves or for others—we will do so with a heart of faith and an attitude of surrender.

As this man approached Jesus, he kneeled down, demonstrating his recognition of Christ’s authority and power over sickness. Lord, help us to also kneel before You in our prayers, not just physically but in our hearts, acknowledging that You are the ultimate source of healing and hope. May we always approach Your throne of grace with the confidence that comes from knowing You are our refuge, our healer, and our savior.

Father, in this moment, we lift up our troubles and burdens unto You, just as that man came with his afflicted child. We pray for those who are struggling with physical, emotional, or spiritual ailments—those who may feel lost or unworthy to come to You. May Your gentle spirit welcome them with open arms.

Lord, just as the man brought forth his son who was possessed and suffering, we also bring forth our loved ones who are suffering from various afflictions. Whether it be illness, addiction, depression, or any other struggle, we know that nothing is too great for You. We implore You, move with compassion toward those who need Your healing touch. May they experience not just physical restoration but also an inner peace that surpasses all understanding.

We acknowledge, O Lord, that there are times we may falter in our faith, as the disciples did when they were unable to heal the boy. In those moments of doubt, remind us of Your power and the lessons we learn through prayer and perseverance. Help us to lean into Your wisdom and understanding, knowing that prayer can move mountains and change circumstances. Teach us to pray earnestly and with a heart aligned to Yours, seeking not just our own desires but Your perfect will.

As we come together under the weight of the multitude of our concerns, let us remember that You desire to hear our requests. Let us kneel down in solidarity with one another, lifting up those who are hurting and crying out for help. May our collective voices resonate in the spirit realm, and may we stand firm together in the truth that You are indeed our help in times of trouble.

Finally, Lord, may we not only seek Your intervention for ourselves but also embody Your love and compassion as we interact with others in our daily lives. Let our actions reflect Your grace, enabling us to be a source of encouragement and support for those who are struggling.

In Jesus’ name, we pray,

Amen.

Matthew 17:14-21 - "When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. "Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."

"You unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me." Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

In some manuscripts, verse 21 is added as "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.""
