Empowered for the Kingdom: A Prayer of Commissioning

"Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick." - Luke 9:1-2

"Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick." - Luke 9:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude and reverence, acknowledging the wondrous ways in which You empower and commission Your servants. As it is written in the book of Luke, chapter 9, verses 1 and 2: "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick." We stand in awe of the moment when Jesus gathered His twelve disciples, imparting to them the power and authority necessary to fulfill the divine calling You set before them.

Lord, we thank You for the authority You have invested in those whom You choose to send. We recognize that authority comes from You alone, and as believers in Christ, we too share in this sacred trust. We are honored to call You our Lord, and we humbly seek to fulfill the mission You have entrusted to us. Empower us, Lord, as You empowered the disciples—grant us the power to overcome the darkness of sin and oppression, and the authority to bring forth Your healing touch in a world desperately in need of hope.

In this season, Father, we ask that You breathe fresh life into our spirits as we reflect on our own commissioning. Help us to be diligent workers in the harvest field, understanding that You have called each of us for a purpose beyond ourselves. May we look to the example of the twelve disciples, who—despite their imperfections and fears—spoke Your truth with courage and performed miraculous deeds in Your name. Inspire us to move in faith, knowing that we are equipped with the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead.

Lord, as we gather today, may we submit ourselves fully to Your will. Prepare our hearts to receive Your instructions, just as the disciples did on that fateful day. Help us to cast aside any doubts or insecurities that may hinder our witness. We surrender our fears to You, knowing that Your perfect love casts out all fear. Empower us to confront the devils in our own lives and in the lives of those around us. Equip us with the spiritual armor we need to stand firm in the face of adversity.

Father, we seek to be vessels of Your healing power in a sick and weary world. The ravages of disease, both physical and spiritual, weigh heavily on humanity. Grant us the heart of compassion that Jesus so embodied. Help us to reach out to the hurting, to the broken, and to those who feel trapped by their circumstances. Lord, we pray for the sick among us—those who are afflicted in body, mind, and soul. May Your healing hand rest upon them as we pray, and may we be instruments of that healing through our words, actions, and love.

As we preach the kingdom of God, let every message we share resonate with the hope we have in Christ. Help us to communicate the truth of the Gospel with clarity and conviction. May the message of salvation flow from our lips, igniting hearts and transforming lives. We are not merely called to speak; we are called to demonstrate the kingdom through acts of love and service. Teach us to be hands and feet of Jesus, bringing His light into the darkest corners of our communities.

Lord, as we reflect on this scripture, let it linger in our hearts. Remind us of the power and authority we carry as we go forth into our daily lives. May we not shrink back in fear but boldly proclaim the coming of Your kingdom. We thank You, Father, for the privilege of being co-laborers with Christ. May we remain steadfast and faithful in all that You have called us to do.

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray,

Amen.
