A Prayer of Generosity and Compassion
"He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise." - Luke 3:11

Heavenly Father,
We come before You this day, with humble hearts and a deep desire to embody the spirit of generosity that You so beautifully articulated through the words of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. In the Gospel according to Luke, chapter 3, verse 11, as stated in the King James Version, we hear the call to share our blessings: "He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise." O Lord, as we meditate on this profound teaching, we pray that our hearts would be moved to act upon it, embracing the call to generosity, sharing our abundance with those who are in need.
Father, we acknowledge that all that we have comes from Your gracious hand. You are the giver of every good gift, and You have blessed us beyond our understanding. Even in our times of want, we know that Your provisions are sufficient. Yet, we are reminded today that true richness is not found in the abundance we possess, but in the love and support we extend to others.
Help us, Lord, to recognize the needs around us. Open our eyes to see those who struggle, those who wear tattered clothes, and those who go hungry amid plenty. Allow us to no longer pass by the suffering without a thought, but rather, let compassion fill our hearts. Teach us to reach out to our brothers and sisters in need, showing them the love of Christ in tangible ways, just as You have modeled it for us.
In Your Word, You have taught us that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. Lord, give us the strength and the willingness to uplift those who are downtrodden and to be a source of hope for the hopeless. Stir within us a passion to share our two coats, our food, and our resources with those who lack. Let our generosity not be a mere afterthought or a fleeting emotion, but a way of life rooted in Your eternal love.
Lord, we also pray for a heart of gratitude. May we never take for granted the blessings we have received, but rather offer thanks for our daily sustenance. In a world that often pushes us to accumulate more, remind us that true wealth lies in the joy of giving. Help us to open our hearts and purses willingly, knowing that as we give to others, we are ultimately giving to You.
We ask for forgiveness for the times we have held back, when we have looked the other way, or when we have made excuses for why we cannot help. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Ignite a flame of generosity that burns brightly in our lives and influences those around us, drawing them to You.
Enable us to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us. May our giving reflect the love of Christ, who gave everything for our sake. Teach us to give without seeking recognition or reward but to do so out of a heart truly aligned with Yours—a heart that longs to see Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
As we go forth from this time of prayer, may our actions align with Your teachings. Let our lives be a testimony of Your grace, overflowing with kindness, compassion, and generosity. Let us be known as a people who care, who share, and who love unconditionally.
In Christ’s Holy Name, we pray,
Amen.
