A Prayer for Justice and Humanity Inspired by Joseph of Arimathea
"¶ And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:" - Luke 23:50

Heavenly Father,
We come before You, Lord, in humble adoration and gratitude. We bask in the light of Your love and grace, recognizing that every good gift comes from You, the source of all being. Today, we reflect on Your word from Luke 23:50 - "And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just." Lord, enable us to understand the significance of this man, Joseph of Arimathea, and let his righteous actions inspire our lives.
O Almighty God, as we contemplate Joseph's character, we are reminded of the qualities You desire in each of Your children. Joseph was a counsellor, a man revered for his wisdom and understanding. Lord, help us to seek wisdom in our own lives and to become counsellors to those around us. Teach us to listen and understand the cries of others, to share our wisdom freely, and to reflect Your grace through our counsel. May we exhibit the kind of wisdom that brings people closer to You.
In his goodness, Joseph dared to stand up for truth and justice, even in a time of darkness and despair. He chose to be a beacon of light amidst the shadows that enveloped the crucifixion of our Lord. Father, grant us the courage to stand firm in our own faith, to be good men and women in a world that often seems unjust and unkind. Help us to speak out against wrongdoing and to advocate for justice, just as Joseph did when he boldly asked for the body of Jesus. May our actions display the love and righteousness that Jesus embodied.
Lord, we acknowledge that being just is a calling not easily fulfilled. Sometimes, standing up for what is right requires great sacrifice. Give us the strength to face our fears and to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Let us reflect on Joseph's bravery as he risked his reputation and safety to care for the body of Christ. May we also be willing to risk our comfort for the sake of truth and righteousness. May we act out of love, compassion, and conviction.
We live in a world that is often tainted by injustice, inequality, and suffering. Help us to remember that our role is not simply to witness these wrongdoings but to actively engage in the work of justice. Allow us to be instruments of Your peace, healing, and reconciliation in our communities. Let us be good and just, loving and merciful, as Joseph was.
Lord, as we strive to embody these attributes, we ask for Your guidance in our daily interactions. Empower us to listen more than we speak, to serve more than we seek to be served, and to love without expecting anything in return. Help us to connect with those who are marginalized, disenfranchised, or suffering, shining Your light upon their paths. May our hearts break for what breaks Yours and may we be compelled to act accordingly.
We pray for Your strength, Heavenly Father, as we face trials and temptations. Strengthen our hearts and refine our spirits so that we may endure the challenges ahead. Let not fear immobilize us nor apathy dull our senses. Instead, may we walk with boldness and humility, like Joseph, who was not afraid to be different in a society that turned away from You.
As we continue to reflect on Your word and the life of Joseph of Arimathea, we ask that You fill us with Your Spirit of goodness and justice. May we be vessels of Your love, reflected in our actions and decisions. Help us to live each day with integrity and to shine Your light into our dark world. We pray this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.

Luke 23:50-56 - "Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment."
