A Prayer of Remembrance and Renewal
"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." - Luke 22:19-20

Heavenly Father,
We come before You in humble reverence, inspired by the sacred words of Your Son, Jesus Christ, as recorded in Luke 22:19-20. “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” Lord, we take a moment to pause, reflect, and absorb the enormity of this gift—Your Son’s body and blood given for our salvation.
Oh Lord, how great is Your love for us! You desire to have communion with us, to invite us to partake in the very essence of Your sacrifice. As we gaze upon the bread and the cup, we are reminded of the profound mystery of Your atonement. We thank You for sending Your Son to bear our sins, to be the Paschal Lamb who takes away the sins of the world, and for the ultimate act of love displayed at the cross.
As we bow in prayer, we want to properly acknowledge the significance of communion. Teach us, Father, the true meaning of partaking in this holy sacrament. Help us to recognize that Your Son’s body was broken for our healing—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. May we never forget that through His stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). In this bread, we find solace and assurance that we are restored and made whole by the sacrifice of our Savior.
Lord, as we break the bread today, we ask that it may become life-giving nourishment for our weary souls. Let it fortify our spirits so that we may go into the world and spread Your love and truth. Enable us to share with others the hope that comes from knowing You, to be witnesses of the transformative power of Your grace.
In the same breath, we lift up the cup before You, recalling Your Son’s words, “This cup is the new testament in my blood.” We are eternally grateful for the new covenant established through the blood of Christ. It is through this precious blood that we are redeemed, justified, and made righteous in Your sight. Remind us each time we partake that our sins are washed away, that the weight of our guilt has been lifted, and that we are made anew in Christ.
Father, may this remembrance not be a routine act, but a powerful encounter with Your presence. As we gather, unite our hearts in worship and reflection. Let us set aside distractions and allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse us of anything that might hinder our communion with You.
Let this act of remembrance be a catalyst for transformation in us. Heal our hearts from any bitterness, resentment, or disunity that may lie within. Teach us to forgive as You have forgiven us and to love others as You have so unconditionally loved us. We acknowledge, Lord, that this sacred time is an opportunity to renew our commitment to follow You and to serve our brethren with humility and compassion.
As we leave this place, let the truth of Jesus’ sacrifice empower us to live lives that honor Him. May we boldly proclaim the Gospel, share the bread of life, and pour out the cup of blessings to a world in need. Help us remember daily that His body and blood are not only symbols but the very foundation of our faith.
In closing, we lift our hearts in gratitude. We thank You for the gift of Jesus, for His overflowing grace, and for the promise of eternal life through Him. May we continue to celebrate and remember His sacrifice until He comes again in glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
