A Prayer for Discernment in the Days of Plenty
"Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;" - Luke 17:28

Heavenly Father,
As I bow before You today, I come with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit yearning for wisdom. You have revealed through Your Word, particularly in Luke 17:28, that just as it was in the days of Lot—when people were consumed by the daily pursuits of life, consumed with eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, and building—so too are we in danger of being encumbered by the frivolities of life today. I humbly seek Your guidance as I navigate this world, especially during times when distractions abound.
Lord, I reflect upon the days of Lot, a time when the priorities of many hearts were misplaced. It is alarming to see how swiftly human hearts can drift, engrossed in the mundane and forgetting the eternal. Father, protect me from the temptation to resemble the citizens of Sodom, who indulged in their earthly delights yet turned a blind eye to the rising tide of sin. May I never become so rooted in my daily activities that I neglect the call to holiness and righteousness.
I pray for discernment, Lord! Grant me the clarity to recognize when I am ardently pursuing the things of this world over my relationship with You. Oftentimes, the immediate demands of life crowd out the voice of Your Spirit. Help me to create intentional space in my life for prayer, reflection, and the reading of Your Word. Teach me to prioritize my spiritual well-being above the day-to-day hustle and bustle.
As I eat, as I drink, and as I engage in my work or my engagements, let each action be infused with purpose—a purpose that brings glory to Your name. Help me to see the beauty in the simple moments and the spiritual significance they hold. Stir my heart to serve You, even in the ordinary tasks, to live out my faith boldly amidst a culture that often shuns Your truths.
Father, I ask that You would break any stronghold of complacency within my heart. If I have been too comfortable enjoying the pleasures of this world, awaken me from slumber. Let the urgency of the times we live in stir within me a passion for souls, a desire to reach those caught in the cycles of eating and drinking, buying and selling, for the sake of Christ. May my life be a beacon of hope, reminding others that there is more than what the eye can see—there is an eternal life waiting, one that is only found in You.
In these last days, as we see evil abound, grant me the courage to stand firm in my faith. May the stories of judgment from the days of Lot remind me not only of Your righteousness but also of Your mercy that desires to redeem. Help me to be an agent of that mercy in the lives of others. Compel me to share the good news of Your salvation, while there is still time for those who are living as if the world will never end.
I pray for those around me—family, friends, and even strangers. May Your Spirit hover over them, gently challenging their hearts to awaken from the distractions of life. Open their eyes to see the vanity of earthly pursuits that are temporary, and help them grasp the truth of Your eternal promises. Use me as a tool in Your hands, a voice in the wilderness, to call them back to the truth of Christ.
Lord, I thank You for the times of plenty, but may I never forget who provides everything I need. I entrust my days to You, asking for strength to live with intentionality and resolve. May I cultivate a spirit of thankfulness and humility, recognizing that every good gift comes from above.
In all things, I seek Your glory, Father, for I know that my life is but a vapor. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
