A Prayer of Gratitude for the Lost Sheep
"So he told them this parable: 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance." - Luke 15:3-7

Heavenly Father, Creator of all that is seen and unseen, I come before You with a heart full of reverence and gratitude. I thank You for Your boundless grace, Your steadfast love, and the tender compassion You show towards each one of us. In this moment, I reflect upon the profound message contained in Luke 15:3-7, where You taught us about the shepherd who leaves the ninety and nine to pursue the one lost sheep. Lord, this parable speaks volumes about Your heart toward us, and I want to take a moment to savor the depth of Your love.
Oh Lord, how marvelous it is to think that even in the vastness of Your creation, not one of us is insignificant. When You said, "What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?" I feel the urgency in Your words—a call to search diligently for the strayed, the brokenhearted, and those in despair. It stirs my soul to know how precious I am in Your sight. Just as a shepherd seeks out a wandering sheep, You seek me, dear Father, relentlessly and lovingly.
Lord, when I consider the times I have wandered away from Your path, I am reminded of Your unwavering commitment to me. Forgive me for the moments I have strayed. Forgive me for my doubts, my fears, and the times I sought fulfillment in places far from You. Thank You for always watching over me, even when I cannot see You. Every loss I have endured—every moment I felt abandoned or alone—has been met with Your pursuit, Your gentle calling, and a reminder that I am valued beyond measure.
Father, I ask You to instill in me the heart of the good shepherd. Help me to recognize those around me who may feel lost or alone. Grant me the strength to leave my own comfort zone, just as You left the ninety and nine, to extend mercy and compassion. Equip me with the courage to reach out to those who stray, letting them know they can be found in Your embrace. May I reflect Your love in my actions and words, leading the lost back to You, my Savior.
As You rejoice after finding the one lost sheep, I pray that I learn to celebrate the restoration of the broken in the same way. “And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.” The imagery of the shepherd joyfully carrying the sheep home fills me with hope. Lord, teach me to celebrate the restoration of those who return to You—not with judgment or hesitation, but with open arms and a heart that rejoices. Let the joy of heaven resound in my heart when a sinner repents, recognizing that each soul is a treasure worthy of pursuit.
Furthermore, I lift up those souls in my life who may be struggling with their faith or who have yet to know Your love. Let Your spirit move in their hearts. May they discern the calling to return to You, and may they feel Your loving pursuit in their lives. I trust, Lord, that when one sinner repents, there is great joy in heaven; let that joy overflow in my spirit, allowing it to transform how I interact with those around me.
Lord, I thank You for being the shepherd who never abandons any of us. Thank You for revealing Your character through this beautiful parable. As I go about my daily life, remind me of Your desire for all to be found and restored. May I always walk in the truth of Your relentless love. In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.

Luke 15:3-7 - "So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."
