Dear Father, we are reminded that the children of Benjamin, faced with devastation and despair, saw their own ruin. The passage speaks of how they were ‘smitten,’ a bitter truth that resonates within our own lives. We too face battles, be they spiritual, emotional, or physical, where we might be blinded by pride or arrogance, trusting in our own schemes instead of relying on your divine guidance. Teach us, O Lord, not to lean on our understanding, but to acknowledge You in all our ways, that You may direct our paths.

Help us to not follow the path of the Benjamites. Do not allow us to fall prey to the deceptions that lurk in the shadows, represented in this scripture by the ‘liers in wait.’ These liers symbolize the temptations of the world—the false securities, the allure of sin, and the promises that lead us astray. Guard our hearts against these foes that would seek to ambush us when we least expect it.

As the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites because they trusted in the plans laid out for them, remind us that true trust and faith must be rooted in You alone. We may devise our strategies, but let them be in alignment with Your will. May our trust be in the Lord, who sees all and knows all, not in that which appears deceptive or fleeting before our eyes. In moments of uncertainty, when we are tempted to give in to fear or doubt, lead us back to your Word—the ultimate truth that shines light upon our paths.

Heavenly Father, today we ask for discernment in our decisions. When we face adversity, let us not be quick to act out of anger or vengeance, as demonstrated in the battles of the Israelites. Instead, may we turn to prayer, seeking Your heart and mind, listening for Your direction. Teach us that victory is not found in our own strength but rather in our obedience to Your commands and faithfulness to Your calling.

Lord, we pray for those who are in the midst of their battles right now, whether they be fighting against addiction, broken relationships, or any spiritual stronghold. May they seek Your face and find comfort in the knowledge that you are our protector and shield. Allow us to be instruments of peace and reconciliation in the lives of others, much like how you sought a way to redeem the dire situation faced by Your people in biblical times.

May we, as a community, come together, showing support for one another, and seeking to lift each other out of despair, mindful of the fact that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual wickedness in high places.
