A Prayer for the Strength of True Love
"¶ And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth." - Judges 16:15

Heavenly Father,
In the stillness of the moment, I come before You, acknowledging the profound need for discernment in all matters of my heart. As I meditate on Judges 16:15, where Delilah challenges Samson with the words, "How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth," I am reminded of the complexities of love, loyalty, and the vulnerability of trust.
Lord, I seek Your guidance as I navigate the intricate layers of relationships in my life. Just like Samson, who wielded great physical strength yet struggled with the depths of emotional connection, I, too, am aware of the fragility of human bonds. Teach me to reflect upon my own heart—am I truly open and honest with those I claim to love? Are my words aligned with my intentions? Do I ever mock the feelings of others with silence or deceit? Lord, cleanse me of such tendencies and mold my heart to be sincere, humble, and filled with Your wisdom.
Open my eyes, God, to understand what genuine love entails. It requires more than mere words; it demands vulnerability and truthfulness. As Delilah’s query pierced Samson’s facade, let Your Holy Spirit pierce my own heart and reveal any hidden areas where I may not be fully committed to those I profess to love. Help me to embody love that is profound and steadfast, a love that does not seek to manipulate or control others but encourages them to reach their fullest potential.
Help me also to be mindful of the strength that comes from unity in love, knowing that true love flourishes when both parties are sincere and devoted, standing firm in faith together. Let me not create walls that block intimate connection nor harbor secrets that could lead to betrayal. Teach me, Lord, how to build bridges of trust and respect with others, especially with those closest to me.
Father, I pray for those who may find themselves in situations similar to Samson's, where their love has been entwined with deceit or manipulation. Protect their hearts from being led astray and give them the courage to seek the truth in their relationships. Fill them with Your Spirit, so they may discern genuine love from the counterfeit that seeks to exploit and harm. Show them their worth in Your eyes and lead them to occurrences of pure love that lift them up rather than weigh them down.
As I reflect on this scripture, I also feel compelled to pray for those who have grown weary in love, those who have been mocked or betrayed, and those who feel they have given their hearts to someone who does not reciprocate with commitment and loyalty. May they find solace and strength in You, O Lord, who remains ever faithful. Help them to heal from their wounds, to release their pain, and discover the love that is rooted in truth and grace.
I lift up to You all my relationships: family, friends, and community. Instill in us a desire for true connection that is a reflection of Your love for us. Allow us to be instruments of Your peace, harmony, and understanding. Grant us the ability to communicate openly, to listen with compassion, and to love selflessly.
Lastly, I pray for myself as I strive to love as You have taught us to love. Let my heart be aligned with Yours, so that my actions reflect the love of Christ. Strengthen my resolve to nurture those relationships that bring joy and meaning, free from deception and grounded in truth.
In the precious name of Jesus, I pray,
Amen.
