A Prayer of Confession and Trust in God’s Plan
"And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!" - Joshua 7:7

O Lord God of Heaven and Earth, we come before You today, humbled and seeking Your face, taking a moment to reflect on the earnest words spoken by Joshua in despair, 'Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!' (Joshua 7:7 KJV). As we bow before You, we recognize the trials and tribulations that assail us, the burdens that weigh heavily on our hearts, and the moments of doubt that creep into our minds.
Heavenly Father, like Joshua, there are moments in our lives when we cannot comprehend the path we are walking. The struggles that we face often lead us to question Your divine plan and purpose. There are times when, in the face of overwhelming challenges, our minds just like Joshua's turn to despair, contemplating the ease of the past—how life seemed so much simpler before we made certain leaps in faith. We confess that we sometimes wish we had remained in our familiar comforts rather than venture into the unknown places where You call us to go.
Forgive us, Lord, for the lack of trust and faith in Your promises. Forgive us for the times we have wondered if we have truly been led astray, questioning Your intentions and purposes for our lives. When Joshua cried out, he was expressing a profound depth of struggle, a struggle that is not foreign to us. We too carry wounds of disappointment, loss, and fear. At times, we feel as though we have been abandoned in the wilderness, surrounded by obstacles that seem insurmountable. We sometimes falter in our belief that You are with us in our battles.
Yet, Lord, we know that You are the God who promised, ‘I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee’ (Hebrews 13:5 KJV). We cling to this truth as we navigate through the valleys of life. We ask for Your Spirit to guide us through our doubts as we seek to understand not just the destination but the journey that You have planned. Help us to reflect on the times in our past when You delivered us, when You provided in ways we couldn't have imagined.
O Lord, grant us the strength to face our giants, the Amorites of our lives that intimidate us and hinder our progress. Teach us to trust in Your strength and not our own, for You have said, ‘My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.’ (2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV). Help us develop faith like the unwavering Joshua, who despite his moments of doubt, continued to seek Your counsel and guidance.
We pray that Your Spirit inspires resilience and hope within us, encouraging us not to dwell in the past but to forge ahead into the future You have set before us, even when it looks daunting. May we have the vision to see beyond our immediate trouble and recognize the bigger picture of Your Kingdom work at play.
Grant us wisdom, Lord, to discern Your voice amidst the clamor of doubts and fears. May we learn to seek You not only in our times of need but consistently in our daily walk. Fill our hearts with Your peace that surpasses all understanding; guard our minds and hearts in Christ Jesus, who is our hope and our Savior.
In closing, we surrender our fears and doubts to You, knowing that You hold our future in Your capable hands. As we pray this, teach us to praise You in the storm and to trust in the promises that You have made. Let us move forward with courage, assured that You are with us as we navigate every challenge that lies ahead. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
