A Prayer for Abundant Inheritance: Trusting in God's Provision
"And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?" - Joshua 17:14

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts yearning for understanding, much like the children of Joseph who approached Joshua with their concerns. Lord, Your Word in Joshua 17:14 reminds us of the times we may feel shortchanged or limited in our inheritance, even when we recognize Your abundant blessings in our lives. "And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?"
Father, as we reflect on this scripture, we acknowledge there are moments when we too may feel that we have been given but a single lot or a small portion in life, despite our own understanding of the greatness You have placed within us. Many of us carry burdens or aspirations that feel unfulfilled—dreams that seem too grand for the opportunities we are presented. Yet, in our times of doubt, we must seek to align our perspectives with Yours. Teach us, Lord, that our worth is not tied to the size of our inheritance but to our identity as Your beloved children.
We pray for the spirit of Joseph, that we might recall his humility in recognizing the hand of God at work in both abundance and scarcity. When Joshua responded to the children of Joseph, he urged them to grow and occupy the hill country, promising them more if they would abide in their calling. May we not choose to dwell in despair but rise up in faith towards our God-given potential.
Lord, grant us strength to persevere, knowing that Your blessings sometimes come not in the form of possessions or land, but through trials that produce perseverance and character. Just as You equipped Joshua to lead, equip us to act in faith, even when the road ahead appears challenging. Help us to remain faithful and not lose heart, believing that You have written a greater inheritance for us all.
We pray that You open our eyes to see the "hill country" in our lives, where we can take possession of the gifts You have given us. Guide us to seek not just what is ours by right but to understand that Your plans for us are far greater than we can imagine. Teach us, Lord, to take larger steps and to have the courage to claim the abundant life You have promised in Christ.
Help us to cultivate a spirit of gratitude. In times of lack, remind us of how blessed we are to have life, love, community, and grace, which are the true treasures of our existence. May we draw strength from the knowledge that Your blessings often come wrapped in trials and perceived limitations.
As we face our own challenges, give us the wisdom to navigate our concerns with assurance, knowing that You see the whole picture and the ways in which our lives intertwine with Your divine purpose. May every challenge we face drive us closer to Your heart and foster a spirit of unity among those we journey with. Unite us in faith to support, encourage, and uplift each other as we all possess different portions of inheritance.
Lastly, we pray for the confidence that even if our lot seems small today, it is covered by Your grace, and through persistent faith and obedience, You can multiply it beyond measure. Let us never forget that Your ability to bless us cannot be confined to our understanding of resources. You are the provider of every good and perfect gift.
In Jesus’ Name, we pray,
Amen.
