A Prayer of Conquest and Courage
"¶ And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:" - Joshua 10:34
Holy and Sovereign Lord,
As we come before You, I take a moment to reflect upon the strength and resolve exhibited by Joshua and the children of Israel in Joshua 10:34. I ask for the courage that Joshua exhibited, a courage not born from my own strength but rooted deeply in faith—a faith that trusts You completely.
Help me to embody the resolve of Your chosen people who marched forward, united in purpose and determination. I pray that I, too, may encamp against the trials and tribulations that I face. May I recognize that every day presents a choice: to retreat in fear or advance in faith. Lord, instill in me the spirit of advancement, akin to that of Joshua—who was not deterred by the size of the enemy but was fueled by the assurance of Your presence and Your promises.
I invite Your divine presence into my struggles, God. Just as Joshua sought Your will before engaging in battle, help me to seek Your guidance in every decision I make. Illuminate my path with Your light, Lord; let Your words be the armor that protects me and the sword that fights for me. I long to hear Your voice prompting me to rise up and take action. Come, Holy Spirit! Empower me, ignite me, and fill me with the fervor to pursue and engage in the challenges laid before me.
Lord, I know the journey of faith is not just about the victories but also the hardships that teach and shape me. Let me remember that every battle has a purpose. Teach me to embrace the struggle, knowing that it produces patience, perseverance, and ultimately, character—in my life, as well as in the lives of those around me. Help me to become a source of strength and encouragement to others as Joshua was to Israel, leading them not only with words but with actions that reflect Your love and power.
As I look at the struggle before me, help me to visualize the encampment that Joshua led. May I gather my spirit and all that is within me, and encamp against the strongholds of doubt, fear, and anxiety that threaten my peace and joy. Just as the people rallied together in solidarity with their commander, may I lean on my community, my church family, and my friends in times of need, recognizing that we are stronger together under Your covering.
I ask for the wisdom to discern when to fight and when to rest, when to stand firm and when to move forward in faith. Give me a heart that is attuned to Your voice, a soul that remains steadfast in Your promises, and a spirit that embraces the truth that with You, victories are not only possible but assured.
Thank You, Lord, for the reminder through Joshua’s journey that disputes can be settled, giants can be felled, and obstacles can be transformed into testimonies. Let me carry this assurance into my daily life, boldly facing the Eglons of this world with faith as my shield and Your truth as my sword.
