A Prayer for True Life in Christ

"And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." - John 5:40

"And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." - John 5:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I am reminded of the profound words spoken by Your Son in the Gospel of John, chapter 5, verse 40: "And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." Lord, I enter into Your presence with a heart that longs for understanding and a spirit that yearns for the richness of life only found in You.

Father, I acknowledge that You are the source of all life. The very breath in my lungs, the heartbeat that sustains me, and the very essence of who I am, is a gift from You. Yet, I confess that there are moments in my life where I, like so many, am resistant to come to You. I am occupied with the distractions of the world—work, relationships, responsibilities, and even my own desires—that draw my focus away from the intimate relationship with You that leads to true life.

Lord, I ask for forgiveness for all the times I have dismissed Your invitation to come closer to You. I have sought fulfillment in temporary pleasures, thinking they might bring me joy, yet they leave me empty. I recognize that I have turned my back on the true life that can only be found in Your presence. My heart is heavy with the weight of this acknowledgment, but I place my trust in Your endless grace.

Help me, Father, to understand this powerful statement from Jesus: that coming to Him is not merely a request, but a necessity for abundant life. Yes, there is life that exists in this world, but it is often marred by sin and despair. We chase after shadows, thinking they will satisfy, but we miss the truth that it is only in surrendering to You that we find the fullness we seek.

Lord, I pray for the courage to step away from the things that bind me. Remove any blinders that keep me from seeing the truth of Your love. Strip away the pride that makes me think I can navigate life on my own. If there are sins that grip my heart, I ask for Your cleansing and renewal so that I may turn my eyes toward You fully and without reservation.

Open my heart to grasp the depth of Your call to life. Teach me how to approach You in genuine humility, for I know that life—not just existence, but true life—flows from You. I want to draw near to You, Lord, so that Your joy might be my strength and Your peace my comfort in troubling times. Inspire me to seek first Your kingdom and righteousness, trusting that all else will be added unto me in Your perfect timing.

I also lift up those around me who may be resisting Your call. Many of my friends and family struggle within the confines of their own understanding, shackled by doubt and fear. I pray that they might seek You and come to know the life that You promise. Grant me the grace to be a light to them, reflecting Your love and truth in my actions and words, encouraging them to embrace the life that awaits in a relationship with You.

Lastly, I ask for Your Spirit to always remind me of the urgency to come to You daily. May my heart be attentive to Your voice and responsive to Your invitations. Teach me to abide in You so that I may bear fruit, reflecting the life that You create within me. As I surrender my will to Yours, I trust that You will lead me into the abundant life that You designed for me.

In the precious name of Jesus, who offers everlasting life, I pray.

Amen.
