In the Beginning: A Prayer to the Word Who Was With God and Was God
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." - John 1:1

Most Holy God, Eternal Father, I come before Thee in reverence and awe, worshipping Thee for Thy majesty, Thy purity, and Thy unsearchable greatness. I bow my heart to Thy everlasting throne, and I confess that my understanding is small, my vision is limited, and my spirit is often distracted. Yet Thou remainest the same—unchanging, faithful, and true. Lord, I thank Thee that Thou hast not left me without light, nor without a sure foundation for my soul. Thou hast spoken, Thou hast revealed Thyself, and Thou hast given a Word that stands above all ages.
Father, I set my mind and heart upon the Scripture that declares in the King James Version: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” I praise Thee for the mystery and the power of this holy declaration. Before time began, before earth was formed, before any breath ever filled the lungs of any living creature, Thy Word already was. Not created, not formed, not becoming—but being. Lord, let my heart tremble at the truth that the Word is eternal. Let me not treat eternity as an idea, but as Thy reality. Teach me to live with an awareness that my days are numbered, but Thy nature is everlasting.
I worship Thee, O God, for the glory revealed in these words: “and the Word was with God.” I adore Thee for holy fellowship, perfect unity, and divine communion that existed before all beginnings. Lord, help me to understand that Thou art not lonely, not incomplete, not in need of creation to be satisfied. Thou art full and blessed in Thyself. And yet, in mercy, Thou hast made room for me to know Thee. Grant me grace to seek communion with Thee, not as a shallow habit, but as a living relationship. Draw me into Thy presence; teach me to be still and know that Thou art God. Make my prayer life more than words—make it fellowship.
And Lord, I fall silent in worship at the final declaration: “and the Word was God.” I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that the Word is not merely a message, not merely instruction, not merely wisdom—but God Himself. I renounce every thought that would reduce Thy glory, every temptation to treat truth lightly, every tendency to build my life on shifting sand. Father, establish my faith upon this rock: the Word is God. Let the holiness of this truth purify my desires. Let the weight of this truth humble my pride. Let the certainty of this truth quiet my fears.
O Lord, if the Word is eternal, then my hope is not fragile. If the Word is with God, then my salvation is not distant. If the Word is God, then Thy authority is final and Thy promises cannot fail. Help me to trust Thee when I cannot trace Thee. Help me to obey Thee when obedience is costly. Help me to hold fast when I feel weak. Strengthen me to believe that Thou art present in my confusion, sovereign in my suffering, and steady in my changing circumstances.
Father, I ask Thee to make my heart a home for Thy truth. Cleanse me from sin that hardens my hearing. Forgive me for the times I have ignored Thy voice, delayed repentance, and treated Thy counsel as optional. Wash me, renew me, and turn my heart again toward Thee. Replace spiritual dullness with holy hunger. Replace anxious striving with quiet trust. Replace bitterness with mercy. Replace unbelief with steadfast faith.
Lord, let this verse shape my entire life. When I rise in the morning, remind me that before my day begins, Thy Word already is. When I face decisions, remind me that the Word was with God, and therefore Thy counsel is wise and pure. When I am tempted to compromise, remind me that the Word was God, and therefore truth is not mine to edit. Set a guard over my lips, that I may speak with reverence. Set a watch over my mind, that I may think what is true. Set my steps in Thy paths, that I may walk in righteousness.
O Eternal God, receive my worship and my surrender. Be magnified in my weakness, exalted in my choices, and honored in my relationships. May my life declare, with humility and joy, the testimony of Scripture: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Let this truth steady me, guide me, and bring me into deeper love for Thee. In Thy holy presence I rest, and to Thee be all glory, now and forever. Amen.
