A Heartfelt Cry for Renewal: Returning to God

"¶ Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:" - Joel 2:12

"¶ Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:" - Joel 2:{verse.verse_number}

O Lord God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth,

We come before You today, drawn by Your eternal love and mercy, to heed the words found in the book of Joel, chapter 2, verse 12, where You declare, "Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning." Father, in this sacred moment, we lift our hearts to You, recognizing the profound call to return to You with every fiber of our being.

You are a God who desires sincerity and authenticity from Your children. Help us, O Lord, to understand the depth of this command. We acknowledge that we often stray, entangled in the cares of this world and blinded by our own desires. Yet, You beckon us back to You, promising that in our turning, we find a place of refuge, healing, and redemption. Lord, help us to turn towards You, not just in lip service, but with every ounce of our hearts.

As we contemplate this invitation to turn, we realize that our own hearts may be heavy with sin, burdens, and regrets. We lay these before You now. We confess our failures, our apathy, and the times when we sought comfort elsewhere—away from the nourishing wellspring of Your love. Forgive us, Father, for our wandering hearts. May this moment of repentance be filled with genuine sorrow, as we weep for the brokenness in our lives and in the world around us.

Lord of all compassion, as Your Word encourages us to engage in fasting, we bring our spirits before You, yearning for a deeper relationship. Grant us the strength to lay aside the distractions that hinder our communion with You. Encourage us to fast not just from food, but from anything that pulls us away from Your presence. Help us to seek Your face earnestly during this time of denial, so we may taste the sweetness of Your utter closeness. Let our fasting be a fragrant offering unto You, a true expression of our desire to know You more deeply and intimately.

We also bring our tears before You, Lord, as tokens of our mourning. In our communal weeping, help us recognize our shared humanity, our collective struggles, and the pain we witness in the lives of those around us. As we lift our voices in sorrow for our personal failures, may we also grieve for the injustices, the sufferings, and the enormity of sin in this world. Teach our hearts to break for what breaks Yours, and give us the courage to act upon it, helping those who suffer, bringing hope to the hopeless.

Heavenly Father, as we mourn for ourselves and for our brethren, let it lead us to a spirit of humility. Encouraged by Your promise, let us find strength in our weakness, pouring out our souls before You. Remind us that mourning is not a sign of defeat, but a step towards restoration. Teach us that our tears can water the seeds of revival, preparing fertile ground for Your Holy Spirit to move.

Lord, we pray for a holy revival in our hearts, in our families, and in our communities. May this act of turning to You ignite a flame of heartfelt worship and fervent prayer among us. As we collectively lay our hearts before You, give us a desire to intercede for others, longing to see every soul ensnared by despair turned towards the light of Your love.

Lastly, we stand on the promise of Your Word, knowing that as we actively return to You, You do not cast us away but welcome us with open arms. May this time of turning mark the beginning of a new chapter in our lives—a chapter filled with renewed faith, boundless hope, and a transformative love that we cannot contain.

With grateful hearts, we submit ourselves to this process, knowing we are always welcomed back into Your arms. In the matchless name of Jesus, our Savior, we pray, Amen.
