Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with humble hearts, seeking Your presence and guidance. As we meditate on Your Word in Jeremiah 7:18, we are reminded of the actions of the people in ancient times—"The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger."

Lord, we acknowledge that even today, we face the temptation to worship the idols of our own making. In the ancient days, it was the physical offerings made to the Queen of Heaven, but today, the idols may take on many forms—power, wealth, outcomes, and societal approval. Just as the children gathered wood for the fires, help us to recognize what we are gathering in our lives. Are we collecting the wood of ambition, greed, or vanity, or are we gathering the kindness and grace that pleases You?

Father, we pray that we may not indulge in worship that provokes You to anger. Open our eyes to see how we might inadvertently kindle fires of disobedience, forgetting Your righteous ways. Let us not be like the ones who knead their dough for cakes that honor false gods but rather let our efforts be aimed at serving You alone, the Sovereign Creator of the universe.

Oh Lord, forgive us for the times when our focus has shifted from You to our own desires. When we pour out drink offerings unto other gods, remind us that our true joy and fulfillment come from Your presence. Many days it may seem easier to bow down to the modern-day queens of heaven—success and reward—rather than laboring for the Kingdom of God. We confess that there are times when we have chosen worldly pursuits over our calling to love and serve You.

We seek Your forgiveness, dear Lord, as we acknowledge our shortcomings. You are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. We ask that You cleanse us from idolatry, both seen and unseen, and help us to reorient our lives towards what is holy and righteous.

As the children gather wood, we ask to be like children who gather only those things that please You—a heart of love, a spirit of servitude, and a mind set on the truths of Your Word. Help us to kindle the fires of worship in our hearts that burn with devotion to You, declaring Your glory over all things. You alone are worthy of our praise, our resources, and our time.

We also pray for our families, where doubt and distraction may lead us away from You. May fathers and mothers alike kindle a flame that draws their children to You, and may they teach them to knead the dough of life with right motives, producing a sweet aroma of faithfulness and trust. Lord, let our households be places where every meal shared, every story told leads back to You—a place where we worship You instead of the false gods that beckon us in our busy lives.

Lastly, Father, we plead for a renewal of spirit within us and among our communities. As we observe the world around us, we see the chaos that arises from lives devoted to falsehood. We pray for revival—a turning back to You, O Lord. Help us to gather the right materials for our worship, dedicating everything we have to make Your name known, to honor You with lives that reflect Your glory. Let us pour out our lives as offerings unto You, bringing joy instead of anger.
