A Prayer for Discernment and Righteousness
"The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" - Jeremiah 5:31

O Holy and Sovereign Lord,
We come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and understanding in a world that often feels chaotic and laden with falsehood. Today, we reflect upon the powerful words spoken through the prophet Jeremiah, who proclaimed in Jeremiah 5:31: "The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" Lord, as we meditate on this verse, we acknowledge the profound implications of misplaced trust and the dangers of following those who lead us astray.
Gracious Father, Your Word reminds us of the perils of false prophecies and deceit. In a time when messages abound — from pulpits, social media, and various influences in our lives — we recognize the urgent need for discernment. Lord, help us not to be swayed by the words of those who speak with smooth tongues but lack Your Spirit. Give us the ability to see beyond the façade and recognize the truth that comes from You alone.
Lord, forgive us when we have been eager to follow voices that promise convenience and comfort rather than the challenging or sacrificial path You set before us. Forgive us when we have turned our ears away from truth, preferring what feels good over what is right. We are reminded that true prophets will often align with Your Word, calling us to righteousness, repentance, and steadfast faith. Help us to recognize and honor those who speak Your truth, even when it challenges our comfort zones.
Father, we pray for our leaders, those who stand in the roles of prophets and priests today. May they be filled with integrity and truth. Guard their hearts against the allure of personal gain and fame. We beseech You to instill in them an unwavering commitment to uphold Your standards of righteousness. May they be quick to forsake the allure of falsehood and strive continually for authenticity in their teaching and leadership. Let every word they proclaim resonate with the authenticity of Your Spirit. We plead for their accountability to seek Your face and to allow Your Holy Spirit to guide their actions and decisions.
In this age, where many love to have their ears tickled, we ask that the love for truth would reignite within Your people. Ignite in us a passion for holiness and a desire to uphold the teachings that come from The Holy Scriptures. Stir within our hearts a yearning to pursue knowledge and understanding that only comes from faithfully knowing You.
As we contemplate the question posed by Jeremiah — "What will ye do in the end thereof?" — we seek clarity, Lord. May this question linger in our hearts and souls, prompting us to consider the consequences of our actions and our choices. Bring forth a divine urgency to prepare our hearts and minds for the future. Prepare us not just to hear but to act upon Your Word, to be a light in the darkness, and to foster a community which desires to follow You wholeheartedly.
Lord, may Your people rise up with courage, standing firm in the face of deception and falsehood. Help us to connect authentically with one another, encouraging and sharpening each other’s faith in You. Lord, let us be a generation that loves truth, seeking Your righteousness above all.
Embolden us to speak out against falsehoods, not in judgment but in love — urging others to seek You and Your righteous path. May we always bear witness to Your truth and be instruments of Your peace, teaching the next generations to love what You love and abhor what You abhor.
In the name of Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, we pray,
Amen.
