“Thou Hast Well Seen”: A Prayer for Watchful Faith and the Hastening of God’s Word
"Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it." - Jeremiah 1:12

O LORD God Almighty, the Holy One who speaks and none can silence, who purposes and none can overturn, I come before Thee with reverence and need. I confess that my sight is often dim, my understanding is often small, and my heart is too easily shaken by delay, uncertainty, and fear. Yet I look unto Thee, who art faithful in all Thy ways, and I ask Thee to teach me to see as Thou wouldst have me see—steadfastly, spiritually, and with humble submission.
Lord, I remember Thy word in Jeremiah 1:12, written by Thy Spirit: “Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.” Let this sacred sentence become a lamp to my mind and a strength to my soul. Teach me what it means to “well” see. Grant me discernment, that I may not misread my season, nor misjudge Thy silence, nor mistake Thy patience for absence. When I am tempted to interpret delay as denial, bring me back to Thy promise that Thou dost not forget, Thou dost not fail, and Thou dost not speak in vain.
Father, Thou who didst speak to Thy servant, speak to my heart also. Help me to behold what Thou art doing, even when it is not yet finished. Give me eyes to notice Thy hand in the small beginnings, and faith to trust Thee for the full performance. Where I have leaned on my own understanding, forgive me. Where I have rushed ahead of Thy timing, correct me. Where I have grown weary in waiting, renew me. Where I have doubted the power of Thy word, restore unto me confidence in Thy truth.
Thou hast declared, “for I will hasten my word to perform it.” O LORD, I hold fast to this. I ask Thee to hasten Thy word in my life—not according to my impatience, but according to Thy wisdom and holy purpose. Let every promise Thou hast spoken be fulfilled in the manner that most glorifies Thy name and most purifies my heart. Hasten Thy word in my character: perform in me what I cannot produce in myself. Let Thy word cut away pride, cleanse secret sin, and establish holiness within me. Make me quick to obey, slow to speak, and steadfast in prayer.
Hasten Thy word in my home and family. Where there is division, perform Thy word of peace. Where there is coldness, perform Thy word of love. Where there is confusion, perform Thy word of wisdom. Where there is hardness of heart, perform Thy word of conviction and repentance. Draw wandering hearts back to Thee. Raise up faith in those who feel far off. Make our household a place where Thy name is honored and Thy word is cherished.
Hasten Thy word in my work and calling. Let integrity be my garment, diligence my practice, and truth my speech. Open doors that align with Thy will, and close doors that would lead me away from Thee. If Thou hast appointed tasks for my hands and burdens for my shoulders, grant me strength to carry them. If Thou hast called me to wait, grant me grace to wait with worship and not with complaint. And in all things, let me remember that Thy performance is sure, even when my progress feels slow.
Lord, hasten Thy word in Thy church and among Thy people. Awaken hearts to prayer. Stir up holiness, humility, and compassion. Remove lukewarmness and restore first love. Let Thy word be preached with clarity and received with meekness. Let Thy servants not fear the face of man, but speak as those who must answer unto Thee. Establish righteousness in our midst, and let Thy truth stand firm against every lie.
Most merciful Father, I ask also for the grace of watchfulness. If Thou didst say, “Thou hast well seen,” then teach me to look with faith rather than fear, with patience rather than panic, and with obedience rather than excuse. Keep me attentive to Thy counsel. Make me sensitive to Thy correction. Help me to treasure Thy word above my feelings and above my circumstances.
When I cannot trace Thy hand, let me trust Thy heart. When answers seem delayed, let me believe that Thy word is already in motion. When the night feels long, remind me that Thou art able to hasten the morning. Thou art the LORD who performs what Thou hast spoken. Thou art the God who keeps covenant. Thou art the One who cannot lie.
So I yield myself to Thee anew. Do in me and for me what is pleasing in Thy sight. Fulfil Thy holy will with power and purity. And let my life become a testimony that Thy word is true, Thy timing is perfect, and Thy promises are sure.
Even so, LORD, according to Jeremiah 1:12, “Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.” I receive Thy word with fear and faith, and I wait for Thy performance with hope.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
