A Prayer of Seeking and Returning to the Lord

"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." - Isaiah 55:6-7

"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." - Isaiah 55:{verse.verse_number}

O gracious and eternal God,

In humility and reverence, I come before You, drawn by the precious invitation of Your Word found in Isaiah 55:6-7, which says, "Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." Lord, I acknowledge the importance of seeking You earnestly and with a pure heart during this brief moment of time while You are near.

Help me, Lord, to recognize the urgency of the times in which I live. I have often wandered from the path You have laid out for me, and in doing so, I have neglected the profound calling to seek You deliberately. I confess the distractions that pull me away from Your presence and the hours wasted on pursuits that do not satisfy my soul. You, O Lord, are the wellspring of life and joy, and yet I have searched in barren places.

Father, I come before You today, asking for the grace to seek You diligently. May my heart yearn for communion with You like a deer pants for water. Stir within me a desire that cannot be contained, a longing to know You more deeply, to experience Your love, and to dwell in Your presence. Let this prayer not just be words spoken, but a cry from the depths of my soul that seeks to align with Your will.

As Your word instructs, I bring before You, Lord, the areas in my life where I have strayed. I confess the wickedness in my ways, the unrighteousness in my thoughts that have caused separation between us. I humbly forsake my sinful habits and the thoughts that do not reflect Your holiness. I turn away from distractions, from the entanglements of this world, and I ask for Your help to fix my eyes squarely on You.

In this moment, I desire to return to You, Father. I hold onto the promise that if I turn from my ways, You are faithful and just to forgive. I am reminded that You are a God of mercy and compassion, quick to pardon, and full of grace. How easily I forget the depths of Your lovingkindness and the abundance with which You forgive. Your mercy flows like a river, and by it, You take away my guilt and shame. Teach me to accept this gift, to believe in the fullness of Your forgiveness and to extend that same grace to others.

Lord, I pray for those who find themselves lost, who perhaps feel that they are beyond the reach of Your mercy. May Your Spirit whisper hope to their hearts today. As You have abundantly pardoned me, I pray that they too would realize that Your arms are wide open, ready to receive them back into a loving relationship. Let this truth resonate deeply within them, igniting a desire to forsake their own ways and turn to You.

As I seek You, I declare that Your plans for me are good—plans to prosper and not to harm, to give me hope and a future. I trust that You will guide me, strengthen me, and lead me down paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Reignite my passion for You, O Lord, and help me to share that fervor with others.

Thank You, Father, for Your abiding presence and for the precious promise that as I seek You, I will find You. Strengthen my resolve to call upon You daily, to remember that You are always near. May my life, in every action and thought, reflect a heart that is continually seeking after You.

In the name of Jesus, my Savior and Redeemer, I pray,

Amen.
