Rain and Snow That Water the Earth: A Prayer from Isaiah 55:10
"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:" - Isaiah 55:10

Most Holy and Faithful Lord,
I come before Thee with reverence and gratitude, worshipping Thee as the God of heaven and earth, the One whose ways are perfect and whose purposes cannot fail. Thou art wise beyond my understanding, steady beyond my shifting feelings, and good beyond all my doubts. Today I anchor my heart in Thy living Word, and I confess that I need Thee to water the dry places in me—places of weariness, discouragement, distraction, and fear. I need Thee to make my life fruitful, not by my striving alone, but by Thy grace and power.
Thou hast spoken in the Scriptures, “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:” (Isaiah 55:10, KJV). Lord, I praise Thee for the certainty that Thy provision is purposeful. Even as rain and snow descend from heaven and accomplish what Thou hast designed, so do Thy mercies and Thy truth come to meet me where I am. Let this verse not be merely words in my mind, but a living promise in my soul.
Father, as the rain cometh down, I ask that Thy grace would come down upon me. When I feel parched and empty, when prayer seems difficult, when I do not know how to move forward, send Thy rain. Let it soften what has become hard in me—hard thoughts, bitter memories, stubborn habits, and defenses I have built to protect myself from pain. Wash over me with cleansing, so that what is unclean may be made clean, and what is wounded may be made whole. And as the snow from heaven is gentle yet sure, let Thy quiet work cover my life with purity and peace. Where there is confusion, bring clarity. Where there is restlessness, bring stillness. Where there is guilt, bring forgiveness and the courage to repent.
Lord, Thy Word says that the rain and snow “returneth not thither,” and I thank Thee that what Thou sendest is not wasted. Teach me to trust that no prayer offered in sincerity is ignored, and no tear shed before Thee is unseen. Let me believe that Thy hand is at work even when I cannot measure it, even when the sky looks gray, even when answers seem delayed. Keep me from judging Thy faithfulness by my circumstances. Instead, help me to rest in the truth that what comes from Thee carries divine purpose and bears holy fruit.
Water the earth of my heart, Lord. Water my mind, that my thoughts may be renewed. Water my desires, that they may be purified. Water my will, that it may be surrendered. Water my relationships, that they may heal. Water my home, that it may be filled with Thy presence. Water my church, that it may flourish in love, holiness, and compassion. Water those I love—especially the ones I cannot fix, the ones who are hurting, the ones far from Thee, the ones burdened by sin, the ones fighting private battles. Do not allow my concern to become despair; turn it into intercession, and let my intercession be partnered with Thy power.
And Lord, fulfill what Thou hast spoken: “maketh it bring forth and bud.” Cause new life to rise where I have seen only barren ground. Let repentance bud into obedience. Let faith bud into endurance. Let humility bud into wisdom. Let love bud into patience and kindness. Let the fruits of righteousness appear—not for my glory, but for Thine. Make me fruitful in good works and faithful in unseen labor. Make me attentive to small beginnings, so I do not despise what Thou art growing quietly.
Thy Word says that the watered earth “may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater.” Lord, make me both a receiver and a giver. Give me seed—truth to speak, encouragement to share, resources to steward, time to invest, and strength to serve—so that I may sow faithfully in the fields Thou hast placed before me. And give me bread—daily provision for my needs, spiritual nourishment for my inner man, and sustaining grace for each day’s burdens. Teach me not to hoard what Thou hast given, but to distribute it with wisdom and compassion. Let my life become a testimony that Thou dost provide, Thou dost sustain, and Thou dost satisfy.
I yield myself to Thee, Lord, as soil in Thy hands. Do what Thou wilt in me. Break up fallow ground. Pull out weeds. Plant what is true. Water what is planted. And in due season, bring the harvest that pleases Thee. I trust Thy timing; I trust Thy process; I trust Thy heart.
I pray all these things with thanksgiving, believing that as surely as “the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven,” so surely Thy purpose will be accomplished in me and through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
