With Me Through Waters and Fire: A Prayer from Isaiah 43:2
"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." - Isaiah 43:2

Almighty God, Holy Father, Creator and Keeper of my soul, I come before Thee with reverence and with need. Thou art the Lord who seeth what is hidden, who understandeth what I cannot explain, and who remainest faithful when my strength is small. I bring Thee my fears, my burdens, and the trials that feel too heavy to carry. I bring Thee the seasons when the path is uncertain and the nights are long. Yet even here, I choose to lift mine eyes unto Thee, for Thou art my help and my hope.
Lord, I hold fast to Thy promise, written in Thy Word, and I speak it over my life with faith: “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Thou hast not said I would never face waters, nor that I would never encounter rivers, nor that I would never walk through fire. But Thou hast said, “I will be with thee.” Let that assurance sink deep into my heart until it becomes stronger than every threat and steadier than every trembling thought.
Father, when I pass through the waters, when emotions rise like waves and circumstances feel deeper than my feet can reach, be Thou my calm. If sorrow surrounds me, if grief presses upon me, if anxiety tries to pull me under, fulfill Thy word in me—“I will be with thee.” Teach me to breathe again in Thy presence. Teach me to remember that the waters are not my master, that they are not my end, and that they cannot drown what Thou hast called to live. Place Thy hand upon me and steady my steps when the current is strong.
And Lord, when I go “through the rivers,” when difficulties increase and the flow becomes relentless—problems upon problems, news upon news, responsibilities upon responsibilities—let Thy promise stand: “they shall not overflow thee.” I ask Thee for boundaries around what seeks to overwhelm me. Give me wisdom to do what I can do and humility to leave in Thy hands what I cannot. Grant me discernment to know when to act and when to wait. Strengthen my inner man, that I may not be swept away by discouragement, bitterness, or despair. Let the rivers run, but let them not rule. Let them move, but let them not master. Keep me upright by Thy power.
Lord, I also bring before Thee the fires—those seasons of testing, refinement, opposition, and pain. Thou hast spoken: “when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” I ask Thee to make this promise real in my daily life. When I feel the heat of pressure, protect my mind from tormenting thoughts and my heart from hopelessness. Keep my spirit from being scorched by resentment or shame. Preserve my integrity when temptation comes near. Let the fire that threatens to consume become instead a place where my faith is purified and my trust is strengthened. If I must walk through it, Lord, let me walk with Thee, step by step, until the trial is behind me and Thy deliverance is before me.
Father, teach me to recognize Thy presence not only in the calm, but also in the crisis. Remind me that Thou art not distant when I suffer. Let me sense Thy nearness when I pray, when I open Thy Word, and even when words fail me. Put a song in my heart in the midnight hour, and let gratitude rise in me—not because the trial is pleasant, but because Thy promise is sure.
I pray for courage that does not deny reality but trusts Thy sovereignty. I pray for peace that guards my heart and mind. I pray for endurance to continue in obedience. And I pray for hope that cannot be quenched. Help me to testify, even while I am still walking through, that Thou art faithful; for Thou hast said, “I will be with thee.”
Lord, let this promise shape how I speak, how I choose, and how I endure. Make me gentle with others who are also passing through waters and fire. Use my life as a witness that Thy Word is true, and that Thy presence is enough.
I rest my soul in Thy keeping, trusting that whatever I face, I do not face it alone. According to Thy Word, I believe that the waters will not drown me, the rivers will not overflow me, and the fire will not burn me—because Thou art with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
